As featured in this week's Silver Sun Weekly Newsletter, this Natural Royston Turquoise Necklace showcases the work of two talented Native American artists. The handcrafted Royston turquoise pendants were created by Navajo artist Ruth Ann Begay, while Kathleen Sanchez of San Felipe Pueblo brought the design together with sterling silver beads and Royston turquoise accents.

Mined in Nevada, Royston turquoise is treasured for its rich blue-green hues and distinctive golden-brown matrix. Each stone is unique, making every necklace a true one-of-a-kind piece.

Collectors love natural turquoise because no two stones are ever exactly alike.

From subtle matrix patterns to bold webs of color and shifts in tone, every piece of natural turquoise carries its own personality. Some mines are known for bright blue stones, others for deep greens or heavy spiderweb matrix. And once a mine closes, that material becomes even harder to find.

That individuality is part of what makes natural turquoise so collectible, especially when paired with handmade silverwork by Native artists here in the Southwest.

For us, the beauty of turquoise has always been in the variation. Every stone tells a different story.

Natural Number 8 turquoise ring handmade by Navajo silversmith Bryant Martinez.
The pale blue color and dark spiderweb matrix are classic attributes of Number 8 turquoise. Number 8 was a mine in Eureka County, Nevada that has been closed for decades, making every No. 8 piece increasingly rare. The stamped diamond pattern along the band is hand-worked, giving the silver its own quiet detail without competing with the stone.

In 1976, Deanna Olson and Cheryl Ingram began Silver Sun with a borrowed pickup, a few bags of jewelry and a deep respect for Native American artistry.
What started on the road grew into a gallery on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, shaped by relationships with artists, stones and a shared belief that handmade work carries meaning. When Kathleen Sanchez joined the team, her eye for design and careful stone selection helped guide the jewelry we continue to share today.
Fifty years later, Silver Sun remains rooted in those same values, honoring the artists we work with, the materials we handle and the stories carried in every piece.
As we move through 2026, we look back with gratitude and forward with intention. Thank you for being part of our journey.
