President Barack Obama's message yesterday, marking the 100th Anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s birth, was an inspiring and powerful challenge to our young people to live out the ideals of : “keep believing, keep marching, keep building, and keep raising your voice.” This generation has the chance to make this world the place we all believe it can be. So let’s help them get their start to being the change today!

We so grateful to be able to encourage, inspire, and be a part of the lives of these amazing young people. So very proud of Colin Dickens, who is an honors graduate on his way to Howard University, an Eagle Scout, Virginia Boys State, and spends his spare time volunteering for the Homeless Ministry and GoGreen Ministry at his church, and mentoring young children with special needs. And so blessed to know Miss Marliegh, who is just getting her start in learning how to serve - and she's only two years old!

You don’t have to be famous. You don’t have to be an influencer. You don’t have to have a PhD or even a degree. In order to serve someone, all you have to do is raise your hand, give your time, and meet a need. Here’s to all you courageous ones who have simply raised your hand and said “I’ll serve.”

There are so many ways to make a difference in places and spaces that need our help the most. So be on the lookout! Your next opportunity to be the change may be right in front of you!

📘 If you looked up the word “service” in the dictionary, you would definitely find Joe Haggerty's name under that definition. ❤️Joe serves as the CEO of the The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce playing the super important role of building and supporting businesses in Northern Virginia. 🌟Joe’s joy and love for service is contagious, which led us to ask him, “where did you get this passion and energy for service?” His signature and permanent smile preceded his reply, which was “I don’t know, I have always had fun at what I do!” 👏🏼👏🏼Service = Fun. We love that!

🌿Joe's leadership style is rooted in an uncommon level of compassion, humility, and service. There are countless non-profit organizations and companies that look to Joe for leadership, and his benevolent spirit and innovative thinking are just a few of the reasons why we are super excited and honored to feature him today.

Chrissy is proud to serve as the Urban Alliance Executive Director for the Northern Virginia region. The NJ native attributes her energy and positivity largely to the work she gets to do every day – connecting talented young women and men to the opportunities they deserve, early professional internships that prepare them for post-high school success.

🍏We have seen Chrissy’s leadership first hand, so we can vouch for her powerful leadership style and the positive way she interacts with students. The students she serves have such a high respect and admiration for her because of her inspiring energy and kindness to every person she meets. ⚽️When you add her love of speaking Spanish, soccer, Zumba, and problem-solving, Chrissy ranks high among our favorite people in the movement of servant leadership. She holds an M.A. in Social Enterprise from American University, with a concentration in Strategies for Poverty Alleviation, and a B.A. in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University.
