i was in love with having penpals and getting hand-written letters as a kid (okay, actually all the way up to now in the present day) and seeing the letter and print clubs popping up in the last couple of years has been a mega-inspiration for my own version of it all.

here’s the announcement that i’ve officially started my own and oooooiiiii that took some creative brain noodling and has been so cool to figure it all out.

sign-ups for the first month of june are live on the website and you have until may 31 (to get June’s edition)!

if you’re interested in joining and love saving money, i created a ‘lil Founders Discount and you can find the link to sign up in that bio on up there at the top o’ the page.

curious what you’ll get each month??
i’ll tell ya!

-a cyanotype art reproduction print created from adventures and featuring a topographic map and wildflower of the Sierra
-an on-theme sticker
-a post card with a cyanotype photo of places we love in the Sierra (to pass the letter love forward)
-a letter from me!
-(and let’s be honest, probably other awesome little goodies that come to mind when they come to mind but we’ll call those surprises!)

join me in slowing down a little and having the most fun, always.

let’s be penpals.

may has been a wild one and a good one at that.

so very stoked to have met so many wonderful new humans as a result of slinging goods at some dang cool festivals and events, to hang with best buds at those very events, to see Sierra Sown goods out in the wild, to talk about my story, my process and my dreams for creating and to be inspired by others and share things from my mind and turn them into tangible goods to be enjoyed and loved…. and also to be home napping on my couch today and to snuggle my dawg when I go pick him up tomorrow.

this is the list for today and I’m not even gonna think about tomorrow… might even jump on in that river after an earring search cuz, well, summer. 😉

kinda love these cute little studs.

i made a large cyanotype print with ferns laid on top and then cut it down to size for a couple bajillion earrings, attached the small mini itsy bitsy prints to the wood blanks with a bit o’ magic n’ careful application and then covered each one with a protectant.

so really if you have a pair of these, you’re connected in this cool art way since each pair of earrings came from a larger print.

your earrings may semi-match someone elses’s earrings out there in the world and you’d only ever know if you ran in to them and bonded about how your earrings came from the same source.

HOW COOL IS THAT?!

sown (intr.)
To be scattered amongst land, earth, etc. for the purpose of growth

the name for this biz, sierra sown, came to me while driving the backroads of mariposa county to get home to my property after a dip in the river in the summer of 2020.

i thought, no way that doesn’t already exist but when i got home and looked it up, i couldn’t find any combination of the two (and i looked deeeeeeeep)

okay universe, i then thought, i’m a gonna scoop her on up then.

it took another year to share what i’d been making out in the world and another year after that to make this biz “real” in the eyes of the government with real business papers abd addresses and signatures and everything.

a lot has happened since that first sparkle of a name idea that felt so right for what i was creating.

i hope people feel drawn to the vision i had when this biz was created and to the vision that i still have as the days and weeks and months continue on.

i hope that through this little-gonna be big business and the goods that i make with wildflowers and topographic maps of the Sierra, you are reminded of your own time on the land and earth where you love to play, scattered about, with perhaps the unintended purpose of growth.

a few mini prints from times gone past… the flowers are popping up because california doesn’t seem to believe in winter in january and while it messes with the whole hunker down and reset during winter thing, the noodles are noodling in my brain and the creative juices are flooooooooowing with opportunities just outside my door so here’s to mountain biking in January and skiing in march and bits and pieces of inspiration everywhere. 🤪

for one who loves words, i don’t have a lot right now.

others are saying best what i deeply feel.

and for each line that i read, each post shared and re-shared, and each story calling in the truth, that sadness and rage and despair, begins to turn to hope.

that as a collective, the people can shift the ways of the now.

don’t stop sharing your feelings.

i feel them too.

don’t stop sharing your art.

it inspires me to keep creating.

don’t stop loving.

it’s the foundation of everything.

and for the record,
abolish.
ice.
now.
