🩵 May is Ehlers Danlos Awareness Month! 🩵
I wanted to take a moment to share something personal and also use it as an opportunity to raise awareness for invisible illnesses. Some of you already know, but many of you may not — I live with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), and I am currently prediagnosed with POTS, with my tilt table test coming up next Thursday.
These conditions are considered “invisible illnesses,” which means a lot of the symptoms aren’t things people can physically see. EDS affects the body’s connective tissue and can cause chronic pain, fatigue, joint instability, and other complications. MCAS can cause the body to overreact to things that normally wouldn’t be harmful, leading to allergic-type reactions and inflammation. POTS affects the autonomic nervous system and can make simple things like standing, walking through a store, or even showering exhausting and difficult.
Some days, the biggest task on my to-do list is simply getting out of bed. But even on those hard days, I still show up and give everything I have to my business, my education, and my future goals.
I also wanted to let you all know that I start my counseling practicum next week 🫶 This is such an exciting step for me as I continue pursuing my passion of becoming a therapist. Between my business, practicum, and 3 other classes, life is definitely going to be busy and balancing everything may be a challenge, but I’m not afraid of the challenge. (If you know someone who wants some free therapy reach out! I cannot consider this person to be within in my inner circle to avoid issues with boundaries)
I do want to ask for a little grace and patience during this season because turnaround times may occasionally be a little longer than usual. Please know that I am still working hard behind the scenes and doing everything I can to make sure your orders are completed with the same love and care as always.
Most importantly, I don’t want to be viewed as “the sick girl” or defined by my illnesses. Yes, my body makes things harder sometimes, but I refuse to let that stop me from chasing my dreams, building my business, helping others, and showing up every single day. This post is to raise awareness about these invisible illnesses. I am incredibly proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m grateful for every one of you who continues to support me along the way.
Thank you all for your kindness, patience, encouragement, and support. It truly means more than you know 🩵
