Wow! How have I only posted once this month? And what a crazy one it's been. I haven't been as active here because I've spent the last month getting sober (37 days and counting!) and focusing on rebuilding healthy routines for myself (hello Sunday night yoga classes🧘).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But, I'm back now with lots of new content for you, and a newly scheduled weekly time to plan content so I can prioritize keeping this account going since I've heard from a few of you lately about the inspiration you've taken from my posts.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With that being said, I'd LOVE to hear from you all about what else you'd like to see me post about, whether it's fashion, life advice, interior design, or beyond. I want to be sure I'm creating the kind of content you all want to see. Let me know in the comments!💫

Can it be fall yet? 🍂

07/31/2021

I was going to write some profound post about dealing with trauma and mental illness and ADHD but life has really taken it out of me lately.

Some weeks it’s hard to get out of bed, hard to focus on work, hard to stay on top of the things that you’re required to do as a “functioning adult”. But you can’t do them all. And you’re never going to do them all perfectly. But when you start focusing on progress instead, taking things one breathe at a time, climbing that mountain gets just a little bit less difficult.

So I’ll leave you with this — what’s one thing you can do next week just a little more or a little better than you did this week? Focus on that and see what happens.

✨GIVEAWAY TIME✨
I’m SO excited to introduce y’all to — he’s seriously a miracle worker when it comes to hair.

Call it cosmic timing, but a few weeks ago he reached out to me about doing a complimentary cut since he had just moved to the area and was looking for new clients. A week before my scheduled appointment with him, I impulsively chopped my hair when I was going THROUGH it. It was a nightmare. But Victorio performed true artistry and somehow fixed my disastrous chop.

TLDR; he gave me two coupons for a complimentary cut that I would love to give away to y’all!

All you have to do to enter is:

1) Follow on Insta.
2) Like and share this post.
3) Tag three friends who would love a free haircut below!

Stay tuned next week to see the winners!

Hello friends!✨ So sorry that I’ve been MIA for a minute. I’ve been taking some time to take care of my of my physical (thank you summer colds🤧) and mental health. Finally feeling up to creating new outfit content for y’all so here’s today’s !

I have to say, I’m officially a Target jeans convert. I have ALWAYS struggled with the jean gap because until recently, most jeans aren’t designed for curvy women who have a several inch difference between their hips and their natural waistline. Target jeans were infamous for having gaps so big that no belt could make them fit right.

On a whim I decided to try a pair of button up skinnies in size 18 from their Ava & Viv line, and boy was I pleasantly surprised. They have the same stretch and contour that I love in American Eagle jeans, but they seem much more durable. They also stretch out as you wear them, so I definitely could have sized down one!

If you’re looking for new booty-hugging jeans, I would definitely check out the lineup. I would love to hear from you if you have luck!

For the rest of today’s look, the shirt is (shocking, I know🤯) and the espadrille wedges are from Target.

My good friend Lindsey just launched her brand new website at https://bettyjaneboutique.com/! If you've ever asked me where I've gotten part of my outfit, there's a good chance the answer is from Betty Jane Boutique. Not only is her merchandise absolutely adorable, but she also carries sizes S-3X and she makes the cutest earrings!

I was thrilled when she asked me for help updating her logo because I've loved watching her grow her brand over the last few years. Go take a look at her site!

Who said a basic tank can’t be office appropriate? A fitted tank can be balanced out with looser fitting jeans with a high waist and a statement belt. (Big bottoms, tiny top energy anyone?). Pair it was some classy mules, a sleek bun and some minimal makeup for that effortless look or a bold lip to transition to a night out. A $6 basic tank and your favorite jeans can unlock a whole new level of chic.

(but pls sponsor me 😍😍). But really. Over and over and over again I get the question: where do you get your clothes?? Overwhelmingly, the answer is Express. Finding that perfect piece in a sea of garment photos is all about knowing the right fit for your body and what you want to accentuate.

For me? It’s my waist. This jumpsuit accentuates my waist while slimming my lower half without making the pants too tight and balances out the shape with puffed sleeves. This is a silhouette that I know works for me so it’s one I return to over and over again, and I know Express is one place I can find great options of it.

Don’t know what silhouette works best on your body? Let me help!

One of the answers to address fast fashion and increase sustainability in the clothing industry is to shop vintage and thrift stores rather than buying new items when looking to expand your wardrobe. As a fat person, this has never been a sustainable answer for us. I love to window shop vintage stores as the next person but in all reality, there are not many options for sizes that fit my body.

Until recently, I had sworn of thrift shopping period when I stumbled across a vintage shop this fall and fell in love with this scarf. I have since collected several other vintage scarves to add to my wardrobe and it’s my favorite way to change up an outfit without buying a new piece. Vintage accessory shopping is dipping a tie back into thrift shopping for me and one day I’ll bite the bullet and dedicate a search to finding clothes that fit me, but for now I’m just as happy shopping for unique accessories and other little finds to make my outfits stand out.

Swipe to see my favorite thrift find yet of a vintage broach I got shopping during a bachelorette weekend which I lent to my friend for her wedding day. This broach checked off all the boxes for some old, something new, and something borrowed. She looked gorgeous. ➡️

Let’s talk about jeans!👖I don’t know a single person, femme-presenting or otherwise, who DOESN’T have a love-hate relationship with jeans. When you find the right pair, boy do they give you the confidence boost of the century. But finding the pair can be a struggle and a half. Whether you’re a 00 or a 26, jeans aren’t one-style-fits-all. Not to mention size variations across brands make it nearly impossible to flesh out a stylish, unique jean wardrobe (which is a rant for another day).

I don’t know about you, but when I was in high school I found style of jeans that I felt good in, and I stuck with it. At the risk of sounding ~cheugy~ I won’t say that dark-wash skinny jeans (think American Eagle stretch denim) aren’t still my go-to choice for denim, but honestly that’s still what I find myself buying over and over again. This choice in denim was definitely influenced by the style magazines that I consumed as a pre-teen that swore up and down that “women” (read: impressionable teenage girls) with hourglass/pear figures should wear dark, skinny-fit denim to make them appear smaller.

First of all, f**k the message that anyone should aim to be smaller/take up less space/be anything but themselves. But second of all, that message stuck with me WELL into adulthood and 10000% influenced the way I perceived myself, navigated the world around me, and my style.

It wasn’t until really the last year or so that I started experimenting with denim washes and styles — thank you quarantine for giving me the excuse to retire and replace my old jeans because I needed to size up. I started with boyfriend jeans and the roominess was actually life-changing. I tried out mom jeans with straight legs, experimented with waistlines and even washes. In February, I found a pair of super-light wash, straight-legged jeans that weren’t ultra-high waisted, hugged my curves, and made me feel amazing — which led to the realization of the reason I hadn’t tried jeans like this before (thanks, Seventeen magazine). I even ventured back into bootcut-adjacent fits — yes, I know, everything comes full-circle — which were WAY out of my comfort zone. See the above picture. I’ve really only worn these jeans out of the house a handful of times and I’ve never known to style them but I think today’s outfit was a good start.

I’m definitely going to continue experimenting with denim in the future and I can’t encourage you enough to also get out of your denim comfort zone! There are SO many funky, fun styles out there that can totally revamp your wardrobe and boost your confidence. Happy denim hunting, friends!
