Falling to Life - Piece one of The Restore Collection
In this piece, an elephant pushes a tree toward a thriving landscape. The contrast between the barren desert behind it and the lush life ahead reveals a deeper truth: what appears to be destruction is part of nature’s cycle of renewal, where fallen trees help restore the land.
What the Elephant Knows
The elephant lunges—
and the tree gives way.
What looks like destruction
is nature showing its genius.
Now this fallen tree holds the rain,
catching water that would drain away.
As it feeds the soil,
this fallen tree
softens the hard ground,
and dry land slowly learns to live again.
Artist Inspiration- Elephants actively push over and topple trees, which increases the amount of fallen wood in the landscape.
This fallen wood, known as coarse woody debris, plays an important ecological role by storing water, slowly releasing nutrients, and helping new plants grow, bringing vegetation and life back to dry and desert environments.
