I just spent two and a half hours on these two designs.
Not drawing them — but editing them and customizing them for certain fans, a certain school. And I'll do the same thing all over again for the next school I work on.
Same artwork, two shirt colors, and they are not the same file.
Look close at the red one. The plaid on the megaphone, the checks around the border, the dots on the bow are all the shirt showing through, not ink sitting on top of it. Then I had to rebuild the whole thing for the white shirt, because what reads soft and pretty on red goes flat and heavy on white.
Those hours involve customizing and pulling out every bit of ink that doesn't need to be there, while keeping it looking exactly the way it should.
Have you ever had a shirt that feels like a plastic patch stuck to your chest, stiff and hot and cracking by the third wash? Ink you can't feel is ink you'll actually wear. I'm not going to put you in a shirt that feels like that!
I've learned a LOT since I started. Every year I get better at this, and the shirts show it. - and I'm so proud of that! I'm never going to stop tweaking, testing, and figuring out how to make the next one feel better than the last.
I do buy designs sometimes, and there's nothing wrong with that — plenty of great makers do. But nothing goes on a shirt here until I've gotten it where it needs to be.
