Ever dread leaving the park because you know what's coming next?

A child who's upset about leaving isn't necessarily trying to be difficult—they're disappointed.

One of the most powerful Love and Logic tools is combining empathy with follow-through.

Simple moments like these build responsibility while protecting your relationship.

If you'd like more practical parenting strategies like this one, visit loveandlogic.com to explore our books, audios, and parenting resources designed for real families.

If you could only remember TWO parenting principles... these would be a great place to start.

The Love and Logic approach has helped parents for decades because it isn't about winning arguments!

It's about raising responsible, confident kids while preserving the relationship.

These two rules provide a foundation for so many of the parenting strategies we teach.

👇 Which one is harder for you?

💙 Handing the problem back instead of solving it yourself

Parents: how many times have you heard “I’m bored” this summer?

It is easy to feel responsible for suggesting another activity, finding another craft, or turning on another screen!

But boredom does not always need to become the parent’s problem...

A Love and Logic response might sound like:

“Oh, that’s a bummer. What are you going to do?”

That small shift returns the thinking to the child and gives creativity, problem-solving, and responsibility an opportunity to grow.

Finish this sentence in the comments:

“My child said they were bored, and five minutes later they were ______.”

Share this with another parent, follow the Love and Logic page for practical parenting tools, and visit loveandlogic.com for more resources.

Excuses can be frustrating...

But they also give us an opportunity!

Instead of arguing about whether the excuse is valid, Love and Logic encourages parents to calmly hand the thinking back to the child:

"Oh no... What do you think you're going to do about that?"

That simple shift helps children begin taking ownership of their choices instead of looking for someone else to solve the problem.

We'd love to hear from you:

What's the funniest or most memorable excuse you've heard from your child?

A shared laugh.
A few minutes of full attention.
