Scripture and Devotion for Today:
"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." (Matthew 19:5)
When we move forward, it means we leave the past behind and focus on the future. Imagine walking on a road called life. If we keep looking back, we might trip and fall. So, it's important to look ahead and keep going.
When two people get married, they start a new life together. It's like building a new home for themselves. They leave their parents' house and become independent.
But there are some things to think about. Have you fully left your mom and dad? Is it more important to make your parents happy or to make your partner happy? Do your parents give you money for your needs? Sometimes, they might want you to do things that benefit them more than you. It's okay to make your own choices and solve problems by yourself.
If things don't go well in your marriage, have your parents offered their house as a safe place for you to stay? Have they given their permission and understood that you and your partner have your own goals, dreams, and choices in life?
It's important to show respect and be grateful to your mom and dad, like the Bible says in Exodus 20:12. They can give you advice and support you. But it's also important to ask God for help and know how to be a good spouse while still being kind and respectful to your parents.
A Prayer you can say: "Dear Lord, please show us how to move on from our past and create a fresh start together. Help us join our hearts so we can become united as one. We ask for this in the name of Jesus. Amen."
