Entry VIII — The Ancient Gate

I’ve been alone for three days now.

But today…

Everything changed.

After pushing through thick vines and tangled forest, I stepped into a clearing.

There it was.

A massive stone gate, hidden beneath centuries of trees and moss.

Its weathered carvings told stories of warriors, dragons, and a forgotten battle.

I placed my hand against the cold stone.

This was no ordinary ruin.

This was the entrance.

The stories were true after all.

Thank you for following this little journey with us.

Entry VII: Alone in the Fog

The fog never lifted today.

The guide and I spent hours trying to find our way through the forest.

We followed old markers.

Made new ones.

Turned back more than once.

Nothing looked familiar.

Then the wind picked up.

The fog swept through the trees.

And suddenly, the guide was gone.

I've spent the rest of the day searching.

Night is approaching now.

The forest is quiet.

Too quiet.

For the first time since entering these mountains, I find myself completely alone.

Tomorrow, I'll search for the guide.

Entry VI: Following the Trail

This morning, the guide and I set out early, following the route we had marked the evening before.

The valley was somewhere ahead of us.

At least, that was the plan.

Not long after entering the forest, a heavy fog rolled in from the mountains. Within minutes, the landmarks we had been using disappeared into the mist.

The trees all looked the same.

The trails seemed to split in every direction.

More than once, we found ourselves circling back to places we were certain we had already passed.

Even the guide grew quiet.

By midday, it became clear that we were no longer following the trail.

The valley remained hidden.

For now.

We eventually stopped beside a sheltered outcrop and decided to wait for better visibility before moving again.

The answers we seek are close.

Closer than ever.

But these mountains do not surrender their secrets easily.

Tomorrow, we'll try again.

The valley is still out there somewhere beyond the fog.

And if we're lucky, tomorrow may finally bring us closer to the truth.

As evening approached, the mountain fog began to lift.

The guide and I climbed to a higher ridge to look out over the valley below.

That was when we saw it.

Something hidden among the trees and mist.

Straight lines.

Sharp angles.

A structure.

For a long moment, neither of us spoke.

The stories I had heard back in the tavern suddenly felt far less like rumors.

I marked the location on my map.

Today we traveled deeper into the wilderness.

The paths grew narrower.

The terrain became harsher.

More than once, the guide stopped to point out dangers hidden among the rocks and tall grass.

Yet the mountains rewarded every difficult step.

From the higher ridges, we could see endless valleys stretching beneath a sea of clouds.

The wilderness here feels ancient.

Untouched.

Almost forgotten.

And somewhere beyond those distant peaks, the answers we seek still wait.

After several days on the road, we finally reached the Swateti Mountains.

The peaks disappeared into the clouds.

Mist drifted through the valleys below.

We made camp near the foothills and prepared for the journey ahead.

The guide warned me that the deeper paths were rarely forgiving.

The first clues leading to the Infernal Talon were whispered across a tavern table by travelers returning from the borderlands.

Most dismissed the stories.

One explorer did not.
