Congrats to President Joe Biden and Vice President (🥳) Kamala Harris! It’s certainly a good day for children all around the globe who will grow up seeing VP Kamala Harris hold one of the highest offices in the country. 💪🏻 let us continue to break those glass ceilings!

Today and every day, I’m giving thanks to all the people who have come before us to encourage us to vote. Who have fought for all of us to be able to use our voices, to speak our truth, and to make good trouble. May we continue to follow the footsteps of beautiful souls like John Lewis and Stacey Abrams and Susan B Anthony and so so many others.

We have a long way to go but this is a step in the right direction. Thinking of my grandfather especially. A lifelong, devout (and outspoken) Democrat who grew up in Western Pennsylvania and spent most of my life living in Georgia. I know he’d be so proud of this historical moment and seeing those two states help make this happen makes me think of him today. I wish he were here.

The work doesn’t end now, it’s just getting started.

When I’m anxious I have to do something with my hands. During the first debates this year I manically folded laundry. This past week I’ve cooked big meals most every night. And this morning I started drawing through these worried feelings. Whatever you need to do to calm your nerves, do it. Volunteer. Call your friends and family. Draw. Stretch. Cook. Breathe. Vote.

This has been a challenging year collectively and it feels like it’s all coming to a head right now. It feels like everything is on the line and in many ways, it is. So if you haven’t yet, please vote today! Your voice matters. Speak your peace and raise your voice. And remember, always vote with the most vulnerable people at the front of your mind.

Together we raise our voices.

I started Speak Your Peace in 2012 to educate and spread awareness on issues using the power of art—to lift up voices and causes that need to be heard, to give back to those making a difference in the world, and to feel good about what I contribute to society as a business and as a human.

I haven’t done much with this passion project in years, aside from passively existing on Etsy, but that is changing. To say I’ve been inspired by many voices as of late would be a great understatement.

I recently read on that “urgency is a tool of white supremacy,” from business mentor . I’m absorbing that message and taking my time to listen, reflect, and really read between the lines before jumping into action as a business.

So while I’m ready to get to work, the work takes time. For now, I want to say on my inactive social media accounts that Black Lives Matter. I am committed to an anti-racist agenda and will continue to find ways to be an ally.

If you know artists I could collaborate with, have certain BIPOC organizations that inspire you, or have thoughts on ways in which small businesses can help make a difference in this movement, please DM us.

In the meantime, to act from a place of responsibility and in solidarity with this movement, I will be donating 100% of profits, after the initial 10% donation to the organizations originally benefitting from the shirt sales, to the Southern Poverty Law Center until I find the right message and organizations to contribute to.
