It was 1999, and I had already left Parsons after receiving a full ride, focusing on painting and art therapy, I really couldnโt handle the big city stimulation, all of the stenches and the alarms, and the expenses were not something I was able to handle. I ended up going to Cleveland Institute of art in order to keep health insurance. I had to be enrolled in school To keep it and my dad was not having me not have health insurance. This was also not my place. I really just needed a break, so I quit and yes, lost my health insurance which my father was not pleased about. And in my reflections, I had seen that I already had gotten t art school in a big way, I had been sewing and creating all my life. Thanks to my mom. And I had always been designing. Some of the designs I make today are from fourth grade, sixth grade, eighth grade, and on and on I really had a full line that was my wardrobe by the time I left high school . I just never looked at it as a career before . And the people around me wanted to buy the clothes that I was wearing . So on June 21, 1999 all by myself in my apartment with my sketchbook dreaming ,I had an epiphany .. smoking a bowl of resin (w**d was expensive and hard to find, we used to scrap our bowls in a pinch) and that was more than mammal. I would create clothing and costume out of thrift items, and help spread awareness about the abuse of our natural world, endangered species and environmental disasters. They were all kind of like prayers for me, and sometimes it was heartbreaking to make them as I would meditate on the realities , doing the research was infuriating. Back in the day you actually had to look for stuff. Cleveland had an amazing library and free internet! It wasnโt in your face like it is today with all of the social media mayhem . I wanted to replace all of the plastic fast fashion that was happening with irresistible fantastical, meaningful pieces. Iโm gonna leave the rest of the story for another post, but here are some bunny hoods. Theyโve always been one of my favorite things to make, They arededicates to all of the bunnies that get tortured in labs all over the world in the name of science and beauty.
