It took me 3 days…3 of the longest days I had to trust the system, trust the process, trust my body and pray. My NICU rainbow baby had to take donor milk for 3 days because I was DETERMINED to breastfeed him despite being born 10 weeks early and my body just wasn’t producing milk yet. When the nurse brought this syringe out labeled “mom’s breast milk” for the 1st time,
I cried, screamed and did the happy dance all at the same time. I am forever grateful for the staff and the mama’s who want to help all the mama’s like me who want to but can’t. It would still take him several weeks to latch and then another month to be exclusively breastfed and not feed from a bottle……but in the end, it was ALL worth it.
In honor of Breastfeeding Month I want to salute anyone who breastfeed for Hours or Years.
Mama’s who pump & store for babies they’ll never meet.
For lactation consultants, doulas and hospital staff that support, assist and uplift mamas in feeding their baby, their way.
