This rare and limited edition signed print by Marcel H Poirier represents the distinctive style and artistic voice that brought this Canadian artist international recognition. Marcel H Poirier was born in Verdun Quebec on January 10, 1946. Although he was self taught, he began his artistic journey in 1968 following a life changing car accident. His early work received strong encouragement from well known Canadian artists including Leo Ayotte, Albert Rousseau, Rene Richard and Narcisse Poirier. The growth of his talent brought him early success by 1972 and led to a long and celebrated career.
A major step in his recognition came through a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation feature in 1974, where Ayotte described Poirier as having the sacred fire. The following year Poirier received an honorary mention at the 1975 Festival de la peinture du Quebec. Three years later the same festival awarded him the Grande medaille des arts, acknowledging his continued contribution to Canadian art.
The 1980s brought further accomplishments. Poirier was honored by the Centre Culturel de Verdun in 1980, and in 1982 he won first prize in a major contest of giant art at the Olympic Stadium for his ten meter masterpiece titled La Voile. That same year he received the Gold Medal at the Salon international de la peinture in Sherbrooke, an event that drew artists from ten countries. His name later appeared in the Dictionary of Canadian Artists by Colin S McDonald. In 1989 he presented a solo exhibition at the Musee Marc Aurele Fortin in Montreal, marking another significant milestone in his career.
Today Marcel H Poirier is represented in more than fifteen art publications, including a monograph by Guy Robert. His work continues to be collected for its movement, emotion and unmistakable style.
