Shadow was at the dog park on a Monday two weeks ago running into dogs and breaking up arguments as he always does. He is 12.5 but honestly still acts like a puppy and jumps our fence! By Thurs he wasn't interested in going out, was throwing up and had awful bowel issues that I won't go into. Our vet thought it was pancreatitis and gave him some anti nausea meds. She said if he threw up again we needed to take him to the ER vet. Well he did so we took him to VEG in Brookhaven. After ultrasounds and xrays they told us he probably wouldn't make it through the weekend and sent us home with euthanasia options. It was absolutely horrible. He does have liver cancer and when I asked if there could be a secondary issue going on they said no (even though radiograph report said it was possible). Well there was another issue! That Sunday he bounced back and has made a full recovery! Our primary vet was on the phone with us all weekend and is not 100% sure what happened but thinks he angered his pancreas causing severe gastro issues. His cancer is manageable (could be benign tumor) so we are praying we have a few more years with this sweet guy! Pic of him excited to head back to the park (no more dog parks though.)
