OKAY, WHAT'S THE STORY HERE?

13 Fifty was founded in a garage, by a South Florida LEO who wanted to create comfortable, high-performance apparel for First Responders to wear both on duty and off. The name is derived from the thirteen stripes and fifty stars in the American flag, as a tribute to all the heroes who have fought to protect our great nation. We honor your service with ours.

In the aftermath of September 11, more than 300 dogs answered the call. Search and rescue dogs, recovery dogs, police K-9s, and comfort dogs worked alongside first responders through smoke, ash, twisted steel, and unimaginable devastation.

They searched for the missing. They helped bring the fallen home. They provided comfort to men and women carrying the weight of one of our nation’s darkest days.

They didn’t understand why the world had changed that morning. They only knew their handlers asked them to work, and they did.

25 years later, we remember all who answered the call, including the four-legged heroes who left their paw prints on American history.

“Give me a minute.”

Sometimes that minute has nothing to do with being tired.

It’s the space between who you had to be on the call and who you need to be when you walk through the front door.

It’s replaying what you saw.
Wondering if you did enough.
Trying to leave the bad call in the driveway.
Trying not to bring the weight of the job inside with you.

First responders get very good at saying, “I’m fine.”

Sometimes we’re not.

So check on your people. Not just after the call. Not just when something obviously goes wrong. Check on the one who got quiet. The one sitting in the parking lot a little longer. The one who always says they’re good.

And to the one sitting in the car right now: take your minute. Just don’t carry it alone.

September 11th is more than a date on the calendar. It’s a promise.

A promise to remember the 2,977 lives lost.
To honor the first responders who ran toward what everyone else was running from.
To remember the families who never got to say goodbye.
And to never let the generations that follow us forget what that day cost.

AJ with Susanville PD was recognized with a MADD Award for his work in DUI enforcement.

Every impaired driver taken off the road is potentially a family that makes it home. A kid who gets to see their parents tomorrow. A crash that never happens.

That work matters.

One promise: We remember.

Today, we had the privilege of taking part in a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb benefiting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

These climbs aren’t about reaching the top. They’re about remembering the ones who never made it back down.

On September 11, 2001, while thousands were desperately trying to get out, firefighters were climbing in. Floor after floor. Carrying their gear. Carrying hope. Going toward people they had never met because someone needed them.

That is the heart of the fire service.

Every step is a reminder of the 343 who gave everything and of the men and women who still answer that call every single day.

POV: It’s Friday, the warrant hit clean, nobody said “quick meeting before you leave,” your sergeant hasn’t texted “call me,” and for once the paperwork is somebody else’s problem.

Life is good, boys.

Stay sharp. Stay humble. And whatever you do, don’t make eye contact with the supervisor five minutes before shift change.
