Our hearts are heavy for everyone affected by the tragic explosion in Staten Island. A family is grieving the unimaginable loss of a loved one, dozens were injured, and multiple FDNY members were hurt while responding to the scene.
According to officials, firefighters and rescue personnel were actively conducting search, rescue, and firefighting operations when the explosion occurred injuring members operating in and around the structure. Several firefighters were transported to local hospitals, including a fire marshal and firefighter who suffered serious injuries.
Moments like this are a painful reminder of the risks first responders face every time they answer a call. They show up not knowing what waits for them on the other side of the alarm, but they go anyway because protecting others is what they do.
We’re praying for the injured firefighters, the grieving family, and every member of FDNY carrying the weight of this tragedy.
At 13FIFTY, we stand beside the firefighters, medics, and first responders who continue to put themselves in harm’s way for complete strangers every single day.
