Over the last several years, it seems that more and more clients are choosing to cut out and remove carpet whenever they encounter even the smallest water intrusion issue.
While removing affected substrate materials is often the right approach, cutting out sections of the carpet itself can be unnecessarily destructive and create additional challenges when the carpet could otherwise be saved.
In this job, the repair is visible, primarily due to the carpet’s age and color loss from UV fading. The repair was successful, but it came at the cost of sacrificing a donor piece from another used closet area.
The takeaway? If you encounter water damage, don't automatically assume the carpet needs to be cut out and replaced. If the water source is clean, there may be a better solution that preserves the existing carpet.
Assess the situation before reaching for the knife. Sometimes, saving the carpet is the best option!
