✂️🤓One of the biggest mistakes I see before an alterations appointment… People cut their clothes first.😐 I know it seems helpful… But it actually takes away options.

Instead…

✔️ Try it on.
✔️ Pin it.
✔️ Mark it.

But don’t cut it. Because once the fabric is gone I can’t put it back😒

What looks fine on a hanger can fit completely different on a real person.💙

🤓✂️Have you ever tried on something that was supposedly your size… but fit completely wrong?😤

One of the biggest surprises during an alterations fitting? The size on the tag doesn’t always tell the whole story.

I’ve seen garments marked the exact same size fit completely different😡

That’s why I always tell people: Focus on the fit… not the number on the tag. 👀

🤓Have you noticed clothing quality changing over the years too?🤔

One thing customers don’t always realize is that not every garment is made to be altered the same way.

Some clothing is beautifully constructed and gives us plenty to work with.

Other garments are made so quickly and cheaply that there’s barely anything inside to work with at all 😡✂️

The challenge isn’t the sewing…

It’s how the garment was made to begin with😐

🎓❤️ Today, my 18 year old Lady J - my first born daughter Jahzara graduated from High School. Class of 2026. ❤️🎓 What many people don’t know is that she is also the reason House of Lady J exists today.

About 18 years ago, finding clothing that fit her properly wasn’t always easy. Achondroplasia dwarfism. So many stores design for the big and tall, but not for the little and small. As a mom, I wanted her clothes to fit comfortably and confidently.

Sew I learned✂️🧵

What started as a mother’s desire to help her daughter eventually became a love for sewing, alterations, and creating solutions through needle and thread.

Fast forward, and that journey led to the opening of House of Lady J Sewing & Alterations Studio in Downtown Augusta.

Today, while celebrating her graduation, I found myself reflecting on how one little girl unknowingly inspired an entire business.

Congratulations, Lady J❤️ Mom & Dad loves you beyond words🥹❤️🖤
