🌿🐘 Plant of the Week: Elephant Ear Staghorn Fern (Platycerium elephantotis)

The Elephant Ear Staghorn Fern is a rare tropical fern native to Africa that naturally grows attached to trees rather than in soil. Its lush green foliage and unique growth habit make it a favorite among collectors and houseplant enthusiasts.
🌿 What Makes It Different?
Unlike other staghorn ferns that produce antler-shaped fronds, the Elephant Ear Staghorn Fern grows large, broad, undivided fronds that resemble elephant ears. It is the only staghorn fern species with this distinctive leaf shape, making it one of the most unique members of the Platycerium genus.
🌱 Care Guide
•☀️ Bright, indirect light
•💧 Keep evenly moist, allowing the mount or growing medium to approach dryness before watering again
•💦 Prefers 50-70% humidity
•🌡️ Thrives in temperatures between 60-80°F
•🪵 Best grown mounted on wood or in a well-draining epiphytic medium such as sphagnum moss
•🌿 Fertilize monthly during spring and summer with a diluted balanced fertilizer
