Today we celebrate Nicole Marshall and her time with MGD. Nicole and I have worked together for 14 years!!! Every single day she has made the work and firm better. She has designed, developed and managed numerous complex projects including our Cabo and Telluride houses currently in construction.

Nicole was just out of school and I was 31 when we started. Now we are both parents and far beyond work colleagues, we are family. Thank you for everything, Nicole! It’s been a great trip!

Nicole and I have had the pleasure to work with so many incredible people over the years. So many great memories, great work, lots of laughs. Thank you and much love to you all!

Our Ocho Loco cabins provide room for a large family to gather in Wimberley. The material palette directly references an existing barn, grounding the new with the old. Covered and uncovered decks provide moments to sit and admire the Texas hill country and a century old live oak.

Our Redbud Trail residence came into the office right before the pandemic. I remember working on this home at my dining table that year. I have a drawer and books full of sketches on this one, just had the time.

It was a very quiet time and that strongly influenced the design. The material palette is restrained and the connection to the incredible hill country views is on full display.

Shout out and love to our client and great friend Danny Amendola for the incredible vision and the trust in us to bring it to life. Onto the next one!

Our Hillmont residence was our second project in south Austin. Designed for a young couple with future family aspirations we set out to create spaces that could adapt over time. So far, it seems to be working and the family is growing!!!

Today is the day we celebrate 15 years and take a look at our first project in the Travis Heights neighborhood.

The Bickler residence sits on a long, skinny lot and responded to a young and growing family at the time. Thank you Carol Cheese and Bchin08 for the incredible opportunity and friendship all these years! Nothing but love!!

Our Lakeshore residence was by far our most challenging site and first project on lake Austin.

Our clients had a wonderful vision for a clean, minimal home that opened up to the view.

Thank you Mr Bruce Nakfoor and Wendy for trusting us with this one in our early days.

Built by Dustin Seymore.

MGD at 15 continued….

Pemberton Place came along and was the project that kept us going long-term and took everything we did to another level. Nicole and I got into a great groove working together on this one.

A house designed for entertaining with incredible views of downtown.

General contractor, Divit Tripathi, pushed us in the best way, to take our drawings further, to the 1/16ā€ and to draw every inch. Thank you, Divit.

We finished this job with Austin design icon Donna Stockton. A wonderful friendship and years long collaboration ensued. Donna took me out to Healdsburg CA next and we renovated a vineyard estate property in the Sonoma County hills. Then another significant remodel in Westlake during the pandemic. So much love to you Donna, Randy and Cleo.

We grew up a lot on this one. šŸ¤ āœŒļø

In another time’s forgotten space

Your eyes looked through your Mother’s face

Wildflower seed on the sand and stone

May the four winds blow you safely home….

MGD turns 15 this week! Reflecting on the work that got us here.

Our Stratford residence started it all. One of the last undeveloped lots on the street due to being ā€œtoo steep for constructionā€. We took advantage of the grade and connected this house with its incredible natural surroundings.

I’ll never have enough words to express my love and gratitude to Jodi Zipp and fz for the opportunity, encouragement, endless support and love to this day. Thank you!
