I wasn't sure I would have time, but after all of the other broken violins were picked up, I gave it a shot and knocked this out in one day. I was inspired by Tango music, specifically "Uno De Cabessa" from "Scent of a Woman".
My husband Scott, who collects antiques, was troubled with the idea we would be painting the old violins (one as early as 1912), so I preserved the beautiful rosewood on mine. We gave them new life and appreciation.
The Painted Violins are on display at the Estrella Mountain Community College Performing Arts Center now through Dec. 20.
The violins are up for online auction to benefit our nonprofit West Valley Arts Council. I wish Instagram could post links.

I installed the Painted Violin Exhibit last Monday at the Estrella Mountain Community College Performing Arts Center. So excited to see it all come together ❤️.
I worked with 20 artists who recreated orphaned, broken violins into amazing artwork. I created an online auction for the violins to benefit our nonprofit West Valley Arts Council, complete with pictures and descriptions, AND orchestrated a String Quartet Concert on Dec. 5th to accompany the exhibit and auction.
The exhibit will run until Dec. 20.

Inspired by a square design challenge from another local art center months ago, I created this mosaic hummingbird out of squares of watercolor on paper, sewn together, and beaded. Catch the "Art Under Fire" exhibit at the Arts HQ Gallery before it goes out! ❤️‍🔥
100 pieces of artwork created through different hearing processes....baked in a kiln, melted, welded, torched, and electrified. The exhibit runs through July 31. Open Wed-Sat 10am-4pm.

Returning to the classroom*. I'm teaching a Beginner Wire-wrapping class on Sunday, June 8, 1-3pm at Conscious Creations Art Studio. Register here: https://www.karenizziphd.org/

Students will learn how to create simple, double, and wrapped loops to make earrings as the foundation to create wire-wrapped jewelry.

What to bring:
Tools: wire cutters, round nose pliers, chain nose pliers
Beads: Medium-sized beads, equivalent to a pea and kidney bean, 2-3 colors,
(optional) seed beads

All wire components supplied.
$20/person
