Sappy and long post alert!
Some of you knew me before Boho Chic and some of you have only known me since I took my leap of faith and invested in myself and opened Boho Chic. In a nutshell, I spent 17 years of my life in a world that never could embrace my skills, nor did they want me to succeed. I was criticized for being too organized, too thorough, too focused, too passionate, along with many other adjectives that now have only a positive context in my life. The only thing they didn't criticize me on is that I was able to handle more than 5 times the workload of any other person. Too many projects was the only thing they were okay with - the irony is amazing.
I had a different childhood than most, my father was diagnosed with MS when I was very young, he forgot who I was at 25 and he died when I was 30 years old. Those kind of life events change people, you sort of box up who you were and put it on a shelf hoping someday you may get to open it up again and let yourself out. Families take on different roles, and you go about the day to day just to survive, rarely looking back or inside yourself.
I did what was expected of me, I graduated HS, went to college and got myself a respectable engineering degree - actually make that two! Got my BS in Environmental Engineering and MS in Engineering Management (even got that coveted PE License)
I worked in the field for 17 years hoping that my light and my talents would be appreciated and celebrated, but that was not the path meant for me clearly. The glass ceiling surely hurts, my light was dimmed, my happiness could no longer be found within my day to day life that was compensated for in that safe and secure paycheck with a pension.
The whole story is too long for a post, and many of you already know it. When my inner self could no longer take the stress and the unhappiness, it screamed for me to make a change. It was not easy and there were tears shed, but I found that box on the shelf I had stored years ago and I opened it! With the love and support of my amazing husband Greg Wi***er, I was able to rediscover my inner self, my strength and my light!
I took back my power and I kept true to my vision of connecting to people through art, and created a space that is full of light and positive energy. I dreamed of a space where all are welcome and appreciated.
Boho Chic Boutique for me is more than a retail space, it is a collection of vibes and a way of life that all about love and respect. I am excited to open my doors every day and share with the world what we have built - a family of artisans that want to do more with their light and passion.
My focus, organization, thoroughness and passion have gotten us to 11+years in business.!
When life gives you lemons, some say make lemonade, however I prefer the phrase on one of the cards featured here:
"When Life Gives You Lemons - Throw Those F*!"
Shine your light, Live Your Passion, and Live Fearlessly!
