Sarah Tremaine, founder of Sarah Tremaine Design and Sunset Farms Studio, grew up in CT and moved to VA in 1980. Her first career was as an environmental scientist, gaining a Scandinavian aesthetic during a post-Doc in Oslo, Norway. Back in Charlottesville, she worked for an environmental consulting firm. Her love for nature and understanding of science fueled her artistic side, leading her to pur

sue modern and fiber art, something that’s been a tradition in her family for decades. This artistic side has taken many forms, such as knitting, felting, and painting. Sarah began knitting in high school and then passed that passion to her daughter as well. They began selling her work in 2006 and now sells online, in local galleries and regionally. She teaches in person and, in 2021, online workshops in Natural Dyeing, Eco Printing and Nuno Felting.
