Ray Rivera, SG, built a basketball legacy through talent, discipline, and resilience. His journey began at age 15 with the prestigious Riverside Church Hawks before gaining recognition in streetball tournaments and starring at Adlai E. Stevenson High School.

At just 17, Ray was declared a professional player and joined Puerto Rico’s respected BSN Superior League with Carolina in 1993. He later played for the LIU Blackbirds under Ray Haskins and Julius Allen in 1996. Ray made his name across legendary courts including Dyckman Park, Hoops in the Sun, Peligro, West 4th, Forest, Castle Hill, Kingdome, Hunter Pro-Am, EBC, and Watson. His impact earned him recognition as one of the top players to come out of Dyckman Park and Hoops in the Sun.

After a 10-year professional run in the BSN and an invitation to try out for the Denver Nuggets, Ray’s path changed after a near-tragic car accident in 2004 left him with a fractured femur. He retired at only 28 years old. After two years of rehab and depression, Ray found a new purpose. He completed his BA at LIU and used his education to take the civil service exams to become an officer.

Today, Ray Rivera is a proud husband to Tania Rivera, a devoted father, a member of service, and the owner of Chozen Sportswear LLC, providing custom uniforms and apparel for teams across all sports.

His story is one every young athlete should hear: never give up, get your education, and always prepare for life beyond the game.
