When I was planning our wedding, people kept asking what our colors were, and I’d say, “I don’t want any,” which I’m pretty sure my mother thought was absurd, yet apropos.
Choosing florals helped define the vibe—magnolia, hops, white peonies, dried thistle (that I picked myself from the roadside for what felt like a couple hundred flower arrangements but was really only like 40 🤣), cascading greens & trailing cream-colored flowers.
Along with whiskey barrels, a wooden arbor and a barnwood wall we built (which is now in the front of the store, living its best second life), the decor ended up defining the color palette, rather than the other way around. We incorporated antique vessels like nail kegs, silverplate teapots and glass pitchers. Ambers, golds and bronzes were a natural extension.
This display always speaks that same tonal language to me. I love that it’s always changing, it’s effortless to add in new goods, and the textures and depth tell the story. Subtle, but not plain. It gives me some variety, too, because I typically gravitate toward a heavier, more saturated style of decor.
