Good morning ladies! A little trivia fun. Without cheating, who knows what this is?

The original jack-o'-lanterns were carved from turnips, not pumpkins! 🎃 And there's a fascinating connection to Irish folklore, wandering spirits, and even the Devil.
The original jack-o'-lantern
The tradition originated in Ireland and other parts of the British Isles, where people carved frightening faces into turnips and sometimes other root vegetables.
These lanterns were believed to help ward off evil spirits and unwanted supernatural visitors, particularly around Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival associated with the beginning of winter.
The legend of Stingy Jack and the Devil
According to Irish folklore, a man nicknamed Stingy Jack tricked the Devil several times.
When Jack died, he was denied entry into Heaven, but the Devil had promised not to claim his soul, so he couldn't enter Hell either.
The Devil supposedly gave Jack a burning ember to light his way. Jack placed it inside a hollowed-out turnip and wandered the darkness for eternity.
People called him Jack of the Lantern, which eventually became jack-o'-lantern.
How pumpkins replaced turnips
When Irish immigrants brought the tradition to America, they discovered that pumpkins were larger, more plentiful, and much easier to carve. That's how the familiar orange jack-o'-lantern became popular.
