Established in 1975. We originally started Woolies as a way to finance a living by travelling around the world. In the four decades since, what we have really done is build relationships. The Woolies family stretches from Alaska to Bolivia and Indonesia, over the Pacific Northwest, Nepal, India, Thailand,...

We use natural fibers because we feel they have a better impact on local and global ecolo

gy and economy, besides being comfortable and healthy. We work with our knitting cooperatives and fair trade non-governmental organizations to find the right price that works for everyone. We work with small community economies and with a lot of women who are widowed, and have given a lot of people a start and seen them prosper. And even though we pay fair wages, in the end you will still pay the same or even less for our very high quality. Together, in a small way, we are all making positive changes in the world.

✨The journey of an alpaca sweater✨
You might recognize Woolies as the go-to local spot for cozy alpaca wool goods. But how does this sweater come to be?
The journey starts in the mountains of Peru, where little baby alpacas are getting the first shearing of their lives. This shearing doesn’t hurt them- it’s actually really good for them! This extra soft baby wool is gathered, washed, carded, dyed, and spun into a delicate yarn using traditional Peruvian methods. That yarn is then passed on to one of the knitting collectives we work with, where expert knitters handcraft each sweater with care and ancestral techniques. Once the sweaters are ready to go, they’re shipped out to us- a long journey from Peru to Washington.
The best part about this process? Every single person involved is paid a fair, livable wage for their work. Every. Single. One. Fair trade isn’t just a buzzword to us- it’s who we are. Honey at a boutique? I know, it may seem strange. But at Woolies, these jars of liquid gold are part of who we are.
Our owner, Hiraman, has over 100 beehives that he lovingly tends to on a daily basis. These hardworking little creatures repay him for his kindness by making some of the most delicious honey you’ll ever try. Hiraman bottles the honey and brings it to the store, sometimes so fresh that he may have a bee or two following him into the store with his boxes full of jars.
This honey is fully raw, organic, and locally made right here in Bellingham, WA. No chemicals are ever used on the bees or the plants they feed on, and the honey is never heated or treated with chemicals, leaving all of the wholesome health benefits intact.
So, is it strange to sell honey in a boutique? Maybe. But we love all things strange and beautiful at Woolies, and we hope you do too ☮️🍯❤️🐝
