Hi everyone,
We've just bought our first house. Built in the 1880s or 1890s, from the looks of it.
Wondering what type of floors pictures number 1 to 4 could be. They are mentioned to be hardwood.
Picture 5 looks like regular pine flooring but unsure about 1 through 4.

Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself, we just bought this old house, we have 3 dates. 1810, 1889 and 1965. It's a T house on 1.75 acres, we have 5 structures on the property, barn, shed x2 and garage. We are looking forward to our adventure bringing it back to glory of what it once was. It also has a large boxwood garden. It's located on the Virginia Eastern shore. Many houses Date from 1700's to modern, it also has roots back to George Washington and the Custis Family and earlier. Not only having a Project it's Fun to do the research surrounding it and the area. I have a walkthrough video I will add later into comments. This is our start, focused on exterior right now.

So we are going to put up shutters on these windows. The problem is that the downstairs windows have trim around them but the ones upstairs don't. How should we space the shutters? Should we leave the same space between the windows and the shutters upstairs as we do downstairs or place them closer to the window. We were planning on keeping the trim around the downstairs windows. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

What kind of wood is this? Stain? Shellac? Varnish? With only 3 original doors in our house ( small closet doors) we thought we would strip all the paint and stain dark. Well it seems we have some different wood types and I’m afraid staining will be blotchy. Really had my heart set on a dark wood not sure what to do

Hello everyone! We just bought a 1900 home. I was wondering how everyone else handled cheap wood panel walls. The plaster underneath needs repair and I just don't have the energy to do everything that needs to be done to have the panels removed & plaster repaired. We just redid the floors and I'm exhausted. I was thinking about painting them but I'm not sure how bad that would look. They have a plastic feel to them. On one wall I started to fill in the lines with spackle, but that in itself is a lot of work and this would be for 3 bedrooms and 6 closets 😩. Is there an easier way to tackle this temporarily until I'm ready for another big project?

Hi everyone!

For anyone with a Neo-angle shower- I had this curtain rod from Amazon that I had for about a year and it eventually failed and fell down, I was wondering if there were any options that I haven’t seen for either another curtain or doors. I want to go with something vintage styled either way but the neo’s are very limited it seems searching online.

I love reading the stories on this page and am almost never surprised when people talk about the layers they pull back when renovating. Old houses are like onions and one thing leads to 10 more LOL. I decided to re-wallpaper this room. Found out there's old panelling behind the wallpaper, drywall over plaster where the addition was added along with a steel beam header, crumbling plaster on another wall and a covered chimney 😆 My solution is to cover all of it with 1/4 drywall and hang the wallpaper on a new smooth surface. And I chuckle every day that 20 or 30 or 50 years from now somwone will be pulling down my layer and cursing the whole thing 😅 The last pic is my AI inspiration photo.
