Decker Honeybees

Decker Honeybees Boutique specializing in honey bee designs, promoting pollinator landscapes and healthy living. This is a place to share our knowledge and love of bees.

My name is Marissa and I have been a hobbyist beekeeper for 3 years. I love working with bees and I love learning new ways to be a better beekeeper. I've also been inspired to create a line of women's apparel that reflects our admiration of the honey bee. I'd like to share that too. Pollinating the earth and enriching the heart.

Rudbeckia (black-eyed susan), Asclepias tuberosa (butterflyweed), and Callicarpa americana (American beautyberry), all native and thriving in my yard. These are easy to care for, drought tolerant, and pollinator friendly.

Here are some great tips for all the gardeners out there.

Welcome to July! Here’s your planting guide for the month. Despite the heat, there are still plenty of things to do in the garden. Now is the time to prepare and plant tomato cuttings for fall tomatoes and start planning what you want to grow in your fall garden. Also, keep deadheading spent flowers to encourage more blooms in your landscape.

Heartleaf hibiscus, Hibiscus martianus is a TX native plant. It has survived our crazy weather in my yard for 2 years and is beautiful.
Beebalm, Monarda, is a native to North American and also very hardy.
As its name implies, bees and other pollinators love it.

My girls and I just did a quick study on Ladybugs and then saw this post. I never knew what Ladybug larvae looked like!
We also learned that Ladybugs were coined beetles of Our Lady, after farmers prayed to the Virgin Mary to save their crops from pests. "Ladybugs" then came and eradicated the pests. Hence beetles of Our Lady, then changed to Ladybugs.
