THE ATELIER

Some designs have a very short life—and that’s part of what makes them special.

Bianca Lavender never made it into production. Only two samples were ever made. One debuted on the runway. The other was gifted to Allison Andrews Wolk, founder of Fashion Week San Diego.

1 of 2. Never produced.

A rare little piece of Agnes Bethel history—and a reminder that not every design has to make it to production to leave its mark.

ARCHIVE NO. 05 — THE WALL

October 2025.

A study in proportion, restraint and presence.
Clean lines. Oversized tailoring. And a pair of boots that needed very little introduction.

Some images aren’t meant to sell you something.
They’re meant to make you feel something.

THE WOMAN — VANESSA CURRY

There is power in a woman who is completely at ease with herself.

Unscripted. Sensual. Assured.

Confidence isn’t something she puts on. It’s already there.

Vanessa Curry in a quiet moment with Pat — a reflection of what Agnes Bethel has always believed:

The woman makes the shoe.

Never the other way around.

THE ATELIER — ORIGIN

Before the collections.
Before the runway.
Before any of it—

there was a bet.

A bet between Justice and Leslie that became an idea. An idea that became a sketch. And eventually, a shoe.

Shot around 2017, this footage takes us back to the early days of Agnes Bethel. Behind the camera was fellow veteran , documenting Justice at work—sketches on the table, ideas taking shape and, in his hands, Origin.

Our first shoe.

The one that started this journey.

We named her Origin for a reason.

Looking back at this footage nearly a decade later feels different. At the time, we were simply building, creating and figuring out what Agnes Bethel could become.

We didn’t know where the journey would take us.

We weren’t simply documenting the making of a shoe.

We were documenting the beginning of Agnes Bethel.

FROM THE ARCHIVE
ARCHIVE No. 04 | The Cafe

Before everything became so polished, there was simply the woman, her shoe, and the moment.

Agnes Bethel has always been about more than what a woman wears.

It’s about the story she’s telling when she enters a room.
How she takes up space.
How she makes an ordinary afternoon feel like an occasion.

THE WOMAN

Softness was never the same thing as weakness.

She can be feminine and formidable.
Elegant and unafraid.
Graceful—and still know how to fight.

There has never been one way to be an Agnes Bethel woman.

THE ATELIER — LENA

Not everything that happens in the atelier is about making something new.

Sometimes, it’s about taking care of what we’ve already made.

Lena, cleaned, conditioned and waiting to be packed for her next photo shoot collaboration.

Named for the incomparable Lena Horne, she was produced in small batches and quietly became one of those Agnes Bethel designs that traveled farther than we ever expected.

Worn by Carrie Underwood on multiple occasions and Ryan Michelle Bathe.

And still, we’ve always thought of Lena as one of our most underrated beauties.

Maybe that was part of her charm.

She never needed to be the loudest shoe in the room.

She just needed the right woman to walk in her.

Archive No. 04 | Regard Magazine

Some shoes made it into collections. Others existed only for a moment.

Donna and Gia, photographed for Regard Magazine.

Donna became part of the Agnes Bethel story in ways we couldn’t have anticipated. Gia first appeared on our runway. She would later find her way into the pages of Regard Magazine—but never into an Agnes Bethel collection.

That’s the beauty of opening the archive. There are stories, designs and moments tucked inside it that even some of you who have been with us for years have never seen.

Agnes Bethel has always been about more than the shoe. It’s about the feeling, the woman, and the story she chooses to tell in them.

Donna. Gia. Two very different chapters of Agnes Bethel.

THE WOMAN

She doesn’t dress for the room.
She dresses for the way she wants to feel in the room.

Confident. Feminine. Unmistakably her.

Agnes Bethel was founded on a simple belief: shoes should make you feel something. They should become an extension of the woman wearing them—not define her.

She was always the story.

THE ATELIER — DONNA

Introducing The Atelier: an ongoing look inside the ideas, materials, development and decisions behind Agnes Bethel.

Donna was never released.

Created in color-blocked Velukid suede, her sculpted teardrop peep toe detail swept across the foot—soft curves against a bold platform silhouette.

In 2018, Donna made her debut at our first Fashion Week San Diego runway show.

The response was immediate.

At the trunk show that followed, we heard it more than once: “I could see this at Saks. At Neiman Marcus.”

Then the runway images found their way to a special bride.

She wanted Donna specifically for her wedding day—and wanted to wear all Black designers for the occasion. So we made her a pair.

And still, Donna never officially went into production.

Over the years, we’ve returned to her. Not to recreate what she was, but to ask what she could become when the timing is right.

Maybe her time is still coming.
