First photo is me jumping out of the frame I'm clearly not supposed to be in. I often don't know what I'm doing and I know I'm not alone in this. If you relate then awesome and please enjoy.

This summer we interviewed Lacey Triplett Thistle (), founder of .child.shop . The conversation was part of the film project about fashion and the environment, to be shared later this year.

Lacey is 'doing' hyper local circular economy work. She knows this but this isn't necessarily how she frames her mission every day. What she is doing is offering curated, approachable, and convenient options to her community to outfit their kids through her consignment shop in Montclair, New Jersey .newjersey . The presence of her adorable business offers a viable alternative to people who might otherwise purchase new clothing. She is meeting her customer where they are, making rent AND having a positive impact on the environment.

Lacey is a human who is doing something to build community. She is also doing something brave which is trying something new. Love her and love her mission.

It appears that ANYONE can participate in a community clothing exchange these days=). My husband Corey is a consistent provider of volunteer labor and humor, both of which are quite helpful for these kinds of events.

Now is the time for communities to organize kids clothing exchanges. Kids are heading back to school in the coming weeks but really don't need their entire wardrobes updated just yet. Later in August when people are seeing each other at pick-up, drop-off, and activities is a great window.

Ask your PTOs if they might want to help to coordinate an exchange. They could charge a little for it and perhaps this income can offset some other PTO fund raising efforts which involve NEW clothing (spirit wear for example). Or run it yourself and be a courageous leader of good things in your community AND upgrade your kids wardrobes affordably.

I've written a helpful guide which even my husband could follow. The link is below and also in my bio.

Why are we here, and am I the only one who feels a little tired?

In this week's substack I'm reflecting on purpose driven work, burn-out, what keeps me motivated, and how much I appreciate people who volunteer their time. People doing service and putting your shoulder to the wheel - We see you!

Loved participating in Westerville's Zero Waste Panel on Monday. One - because the room was full of thoughtful, engaged humans who somehow continue to find the energy to do good things which may be time consuming and may lack an immediate, quantifiable return. Two - because I got to spend time with and who, in addition to being bountiful in knowledge, are fun and maybe a little irreverent.

Our actions as humans matter. Do a good thing and tell people about it. You can find your accountability partners, cheering committee, and therapists at these kinds of lovely gatherings.

Thanks as always to and for being leaders in Central Ohio.

My long green linen shirt is from the Eileen Fisher Renew program. Someone returned it to Eileen Fisher as part of their take back program. It was cleaned and then over-dyed and offered for sale. Total transparency was offered about what I was buying.

Eileen Fisher is leading the charge in building a practical circular fashion ecosystem. What happened here is that I didn't just buy this to say I supported the program. When I saw this shirt I coveted it. I paid $115 for it and wear it happily.

Through our choices as consumers we can reduce the impact of fashion production on the environment. Flawless ex*****on as we see here facilitates this shift.

I just feel like letting everyone know that I'm having a great summer. My mission since starting Circular Thrift is to build community around sustainable fashion. Every 4th as I trundle along on my vehicle and see so many people being happy and silly together it fills me with gratitude. Thank you everyone who supports my mission. Thank you everyone who takes time to offer support to another human throughout your day. That is all.

"What gets measured gets managed". It sounds trite, and maybe reading that phrase you feel like you need to own a plastic pen protector or a belt clip for your palm pilot. I'm wondering though if helping people quantify the impact of reduced consumption garment by garment somehow makes a chaotic community swap feel like a collective environmental rescue mission. What can meaningfully shift consumer behavior?

I'm exploring the importance of measuring ones personal impact in my most recent Substack. Link in bio.

Our actions as consumers can reduce the impact of fashion production on the earth.

Episode 1 of the Tangled Threads docu-series exploring the history of fashion producrtion and the environment is officially 'in the can'. We wrapped filming in NYC in the beginning of this month. SO excited about where this journey is leading us. Stay tuned for more BTS shares!

Clothing exchanges remain, in 2026, the most impactful thing which you as a concerned, regular, community-focused human can do to reduce the impact of global fashion production on the environment. Think about organizing one as a fall goal. You will being doing something which has purpose. You will probably have fun and meet a new person or two. You will likely end up with some new (to you) clothing.

I've written a guide which might save you some time. You can it find in my bio.

I believe in you! Go do something marvelous!

It was an incredible honor to learn from about the circular economy effort led by EILEEN FISHER . This interview series is part of the documentary work of . Carmen graciously fielded questions by history PhD's with lots of knowledge about environmental history and water, and little knowledge about the fashion ecosystem. It was fascinating and fun and none of us wanted to leave.
