Earlier this fall, I shared some reflections with Voyage Ohio on my journey thus far as a for-profit social entrepreneur.

In the article, I spoke about my experiences as an advocate for sustainable consumption practices and solutions for global textile waste. Life is definitely not a straight line, and growth and success are rarely linear either. Sometimes you win at surprising times, drawing on lived experience from a completely different chapter to solve a new problem.

My mom made most of our family's Halloween costumes growing up.

In the months following its debut on Halloween, my son Zach could be seen in this particular dinosaur costume everywhere—at school, at the grocery store, on the front lawn, while napping, while walking our dog...

I sold it last year to the parent of a toddler. When I handed it off, it was fresh, cleaned, and ready for another tour!

Consider supporting costume exchanges in your own community this season. If you have great costumes in your closet, consider lending them out or offering them to a small person who will love them. It’s a total win—especially if snacks are consumed in said costume well into March!

I’m deeply interested in systems change and circular economy principles. Textiles are where I started this journey based on my lived experience, but circularity applies to more than what we wear.

Circular Thrift will host its FOURTH annual fall clothing exchange in Bexley. We are again partnering with who has graciously offered to host our event once again. I LOVE this location for events.

My friend Michelle sent me this lovely photo. I’m not sure if she realized it at the time (well, she probably will now when she’s tagged!), but her text made my whole day.

Michelle is working in a community garden wearing a hat I made from post-consumer textiles. I love that she’s in a garden. I love that she chose to wear this hat to do that sacred work.

I feel so grateful to be in community with so many wonderful humans. We’re all on a bit of a journey, aren’t we? It’s so nice to have people around who truly "see" and support us.

Last Sunday in Bexley was magical in so many ways. The weather was lovely—hot, but breezy.

I had the pleasure of being a vendor at Bexley's Arts Festival and the . I love setting up for an arts festival. My tent feels like a mobile living room where neighbors pop in to say hi and catch up with each other. Being immersed in my community like this is my favorite part of what I do. We all have so much going on, so I deeply value both the impromptu conversations I get to have and the ones I’m lucky enough to witness.

To the parents of the 4.5-year-old who—tired from the sun, heat, and ambient noise, and annoyed that her parents wanted to stay—threw her hands in the air, stomped, and yelled "I HATE ART!!!!!!": keep making her look at art. It will pay off.

To the child herself: you have a lot of fire, little person! It will serve you well later in life. (And you’ll probably start to love art when you get to experience it on your own terms.)

I’m also so grateful and excited every time someone purchases what I make (all upcycled from post-consumer textile waste). It gives me real hope that remanufacturing and circular design can be a viable path for creatives and makers.

Every time I enter I find I am among my people. This is such a genius model. I hand over items for which I don't have an immediate use and scavenge (raccoon like) for items I believe I need at present. Emphasis on 'believe'. IYKYK ha!

Find in this week-end at Bexley Summerfest. Many creations resulting from my visits to Craft Raccoon and ongoing passion to make cool things from post consumer textile waste.
