Longtime friends, Carol Welch and Lori Heintzelman, will present "Flower Girls," a collaborative showing of their artwork at the Toucan gallery from July 18 to August 28, 2026.

An opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 18, from 1 to 3 pm.

In March of 2020, Lori Heintzelman took a photograph. It captured her own shadow projected onto a field of flowers. She called this photograph, “I Always Wanted to be a Flower Girl,” and it set in motion an artistic dialogue. Inspired by the photo, Carol Welch started painting some color studies, and a collaborative journey continues to this day. For six years, now, Carol has been marking "keeper" on the photos Lori shares on social media, and from this store of source material and inspiration, has painted interpretation after interpretation of Lori’s own take on nature’s vital blossoming. The result is a body of work that represents a relationship: friends, forever, with a shared artistic enterprise to see them through. This is "Flower Girls."

May Pang will be in attendance at Toucan Gallery all weekend, meeting customers and telling stories behind these amazing limited-edition photographs for sale of John Lennon.

During the Lost Weekend, with May's help, Lennon had his most artistically and commercially productive period post-Beatles—with the albums "Mind Games", "Walls and Bridges", which included his only #1 Hit Single "Whatever Gets You Through the Night", "Rock and Roll" and collaborations with Rock legends Elton John, David Bowie, Harry Nilsson, George Harrison, Mick Jagger, and Ringo among others. Also, on that album Pang can be heard on the song “ #9 Dream” where she whispers John’s name in the song. Another song on the album “Surprise, Surprise (Sweet Bird of Paradox)” was written about Pang.

Pang also encouraged Lennon to reconnect with his family and his friends, which ultimately led to a reunion with Paul McCartney and a memorable jam session between the two Beatles. Pang also arranged for Julian Lennon to visit his father for the first time in almost three years. One of Pang’s photographs of Julian Lennon graces the cover of Julian’s latest album entitled “Jude.”

Lennon also went into the studio with friend Harry Nilsson during this time and produced his album “Pussy Cats.” It was during this time that Pang stayed in a rented house in Santa Monica with Lennon and fellow partiers Ringo Starr, Keith Moon (The Who) and Harry Nilsson. Several photos from this time also appear in the exhibition. Other highlights of the exhibition include the only photograph that exists of John Lennon signing the contract to dissolve the Beatles as well as one of the last known photographs of John Lennon and Paul McCartney together from March 29, 1974. Both photographs have never been available to the public until now.

“The Lost Weekend – The Photography of May Pang” exhibition will provide fans a rare opportunity to see John Lennon in a new light, through the lens of someone who knew him intimately during one of the most creative periods of his life. Pang’s photos will be on display and available to purchase for three days only. Check out the show and meet May Pang at Toucan Gallery, 1002 2nd Avenue North, Billings, MT, Friday, June 12 through Sunday, June 14, 2026.

Hi everybody! Toucan's Spring Open House is this Saturday, May 2, from 10:30 am - 4 pm. We hope to see you there! It's always good to see all of our Toucan friends.

Billings artist Betsy Thayer is cleaning out her studio, so we will have lots of her art on sale for 50% off. This is a real opportunity to acquire some of her work.

There will also be the usual selection of pottery, paintings, drawings, photographs, prints and greeting cards, jewelry and accessories, and whatever else, everything handcrafted by area and regional artists and artisans. We’ll have all the creative output of all the usual suspects in terms of Toucan artists, as well as new work by some new artists.

There will be snacks and coffee and some dirty sodas (which are, for the uninitiated, bespoke beverages that mix soda, creamer, and flavored syrups, and have become all the rage since exploding in viral popularity on TikTok—so you won't say we’re not keeping up with the times ; )

Join us on Saturday, May 2, for the Toucan Spring Open House from 10:30 am – 4 pm.
