So proud of my latest project—this custom hand-bleached denim workwear jacket made from six pairs of old blue jeans👖😎
My client asked for so many customizations I’d never done before: fully lined with jersey knit for the chest, back, and pocket bags, sanded satin sleeves, welt chest pockets, pen pockets on the sleeve, and even a removable drawstring hood! I also decided to add shoulder vents for better range of movement within the jacket - adding elastic to the inside so it would all snap back in place. Such a cool technique that I want to include in my motorcycle jacket I'm designing for myself!
The jeans I worked with weren’t wide enough, so I had to piece the pattern together strategically—adding seams to the front panels, back panel, under sleeve, waistband, and placket. So. Much. Topstitching!! (I went through an entire 500-yard spool of thread 😵💫✋)
There were definitely mistakes along the way, and I’d do some things differently if I took on this project again. But honestly? This jacket has given me so much confidence in my sewing. It’s taught me that making mistakes is part of the process—and that growth happens when you learn to embrace them.
I’m still in my first year of this journey, and I know there’s so much more to learn. But it’s all about making stuff, not just thinking about it! Who would’ve thought?! 🙌
