We have a sale coming up… Here’s your sign!

Did you know that many disposable menstrual products contain plastic?

Conventional pads often include plastic backings, plastic packaging, synthetic absorbent materials, and adhesives. Tampons may also contain plastic components, especially applicators and packaging. Over a lifetime, the average menstruating person may use between 5,000 and 15,000 disposable menstrual products, with most ending up in landfills after a single use. Studies have found that disposable pads and tampons create significantly more waste and environmental impact than reusable alternatives. (National Geographic)

Many disposable menstrual products can take hundreds of years to break down due to their plastic content, contributing to long-term landfill waste and microplastic pollution. Researchers continue to study the broader environmental impact of these products and the waste they generate every month around the world. (National Geographic)

Choosing reusable options is one simple way to reduce waste while also investing in products designed to last for years rather than days. Life cycle assessments have consistently found that reusable menstrual products have a substantially lower environmental impact compared to disposable alternatives. (ScienceDirect)

At Made by Mother, we’re proud to offer handmade reusable menstrual and incontinence products designed for real life. Whether you’re managing a heavy flow, light flow, postpartum recovery, bladder leaks, or everyday peace of mind, our reusable pads provide comfort, reliability, and a more sustainable option for your body and the planet.

Small changes add up. One reusable pad can replace hundreds of disposable products over its lifetime.

Can we talk about postpartum for a minute?

Your body just did something extraordinary.

It grew a human life from scratch. Every organ, every muscle, every hormone, every cell in your body worked together to create, carry, and deliver a baby. It is one of the most physically demanding things a human body can do.

And then, often within hours, the world expects you to be functional. Productive. Grateful. Put together. Back to normal.

Meanwhile, you’re navigating bleeding that nobody fully prepared you for. Hormones that feel like they’re crashing all at once. Exhaustion unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. A pelvic floor that has been through absolute war. A body that is healing from either childbirth, surgery, or both.

And somehow we’re expected to recover while caring for a tiny human who needs us around the clock.

The disposable option most hospitals and stores offer is essentially a mattress strapped into your underwear. Stiff. Plasticky. Hot. Bulky. Sitting against some of the most sensitive, swollen, and healing skin of your life.

If you had stitches, you probably know exactly what I’m talking about. If those disposable pads get dry, they can stick. And if you’ve experienced that, then you already know the level of discomfort I’m talking about. Ask me how I know.

When I started making cloth pads, postpartum recovery was one of the things I kept coming back to. Why were we expected to settle for uncomfortable options during one of the most vulnerable healing periods of our lives?

So I made something softer.

Something gentler.

Something designed with comfort in mind.

Over the next week, I’ll be introducing different styles that work beautifully for postpartum recovery, as well as options for those dealing with severe or heavy incontinence.

Because healing is hard enough.

Because comfort matters.

Because softness shouldn’t be a luxury.

And because after everything your body has done, you deserve products that support your recovery instead of making it harder.

If you’ve been through postpartum recovery, drop a heart below and share the advice you wish someone had given you before bringing your baby home. Your experience might be exactly what another new parent needs to hear today.

What Are Interl***al Pads?

Interl***al pads are small pieces of soft fabric that sit comfortably between the l***a to help absorb light menstrual flow, spotting, discharge, or minor bladder leaks.

Unlike traditional pads, interl***al pads don’t attach to underwear. They stay in place naturally and can be used on their own during very light flow days or alongside cloth pads, period underwear, menstrual cups, or discs for extra protection.

Many people love interl***al pads because they:

• Help catch leaks before they reach your underwear
• Add backup protection for cups and discs
• Can reduce the feeling of dampness
• Are reusable and easy to wash
• Take up very little space in a purse or pocket

Because every body is different, it may take a little practice to find the fold and placement that feels most comfortable for you.

Small, simple, and surprisingly versatile, interl***al pads are one of the most underrated tools in reusable menstrual care.
