I spent 6weeks camping, sleeping in a tent in a country known for their creepy crawlies. Little spiders that bite leaving you with necrosis for years. Big black snakes that kill. Dingoes that howl in the night.
Months later, night brought out the creepy crawlies, as I slept in the safety of my bed. I awakened with an angry bite on my arm. I’d seen the type before, the kind to really watch out for.
I paid attention, then took off on a road trip with my dad. Via Truckee, we finished south of Tucson with me flying back to Boise a few days later. I paid attention.
I paid attention while in Truckee to the numbing and tingling that awoke me. I waited until the urgent care was open then awakened family to get me there.
Now, after 30 plus years of never taking antibiotics. Who really wants to be driving for a couple of days, sleeping in hotels with their dad. Not me, so I did not start the antibiotics, and the Truckee doc really did not think I needed them.
Once home, a few days passed and I paid attention.
I went in search of star garnets, garnets and fossils with the DNA attached. That weekend I started to sweat a great deal. Yes, it was close to 100 degrees out, yet this was excessive.
When the first line from the bite hit a vein I took antibiotics, it quickly went to a third vein.
I went to another urgent care, twice.
I had an x ray. I’m in round two of antibiotics, with talks of intravenous antibiotics, and an MRI on Tuesday.
