Let’s talk about our TORTICOLLIS story 🧐

If you’re new here 👋🏼 hi! Let me give a little background.

Tripp was LOW and head down for the majority of my pregnancy. We had a vaginal, unmedicated birth with a relatively short labor, he was set up for success in my mind.

As a pediatric occupational therapy assistant, I was hyper- aware of his development, even though infants were never my area of expertise.

He was a few weeks old when I noticed his narrow head shape and about 6 weeks old when I really noticed his head turning preference.

The first two pictures show his severe head tilt to the left and his pediatrician said he would grow out of it and not to be concerned. I of course knew better than that!

Torticollis is tightening of the neck muscles causing a tilt / twisting of the head, and was honestly outside of my comfort zone as I had never worked with a client with torticollis.

I reached out to and Jennifer gave us some stretches and positional changes to try. We did them consistently and you can see in just two months (swipe) how much better he was!

It’s so easy to feel guilty when your child struggles, I know I did at first. But it wasn’t due to lack of tummy time or awareness, it was related to his position in the womb, Scaphocephaly (narrow head shape) and likely his tethered oral tissues.
Everything is connected!! 🤯

I just want to share my story with you all to remind you to listen to your gut, advocate for your babes when you know something isn’t right, and get early intervention if possible!
👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
Did / does your babe have torticollis??

Happy New Year!! 💥

I don’t know what it is about this year but it did not feel like NYE over here 😂 We didn’t even make it to midnight!

Nonetheless, one of my goals was to figure out the direction I wanted to go with TSP and rebrand my website.

Since having Tripp, I’ve loved helping other parents understand their babe’s sensory system here on IG, so I decided to go in that direction.

It’s finally time to share that my new website is LIVE & I have new resources available!

Starting with my 0-6 Month Sensory Guide and Tummy Time Guide!
www.thesensoryproject.com

Both of these resources are designed to help new parents implement simple sensory based activities into the daily routine- stress free!

Please note- the tummy time resources ARE included in the sensory guide. So if you purchase the 0-6 month sensory guide, you DO NOT need the tummy time guide!

I also share a FREE crawling guide! Sharing some activities for pre-crawlers to post crawlers, because this milestone is SO IMPORTANT!

I hope these help you in your parenting journey and make a difference for your kiddo!

Motherhood is a crazy thing. I want to learn as much as I possibly can about this sweet boy, how he works, and how to help him thrive in our world. I never felt that urge to know more and find those answers before becoming a mother.

A few weeks back I shared the genetics test we did through NutriTots] amd I honestly had no idea what to make of it when we go the results back 🥴

Today we met with Hailey Heard Arnold] and she went through everything with us and I LEARNED SO MUCH. Not only about Tripp and his unique system, but so much about nutrition and SPD as well!

It was so eye opening and I can’t wait to share more as I learn more!

As soon as we got off the call, I ordered him multivitamins from NutriTots] and the genetics test for Daniel and I to take!

I highly recommend learning more about your child’s (and your own) genetic make up to see how you can modify their diet, add supplements and improve underlying symptoms of a wide variety of ailments!

The craziest thing- Tripp has a predisposition to sensory processing disorder based on his genes! This is such important information to know! I feel like there’s so much more I can do to set him up for a lifetime of success and I’m so excited to learn more about this!

Let me know what questions you have- I’m planning on scheduling a live video with Hailey Heard Arnold] soon! Always thankful for recommendations from - she never lets me down!

Now and then… Swipe to see the old days! I’ve always been a F***y pack kind of girl 🙃

Halloween has never been so fun- watching your own kiddo experience all the things for the first time- nothing beats that!

He blew kisses, said thank you and good bye and tried his best to say trick or treat. It was such a magical night 🤗

However you spent your Halloween, I hope you enjoyed the special moments and found joy in the little things 🍭

Sensory bin Saturday with my favorite little dude! 🖤

and I hit up the dollar store this week to pick out some fun Halloween activities to share and this one came home with me!

Everything is from the dollar store:
🎃 Kidney beans
🎃 Black beans
🎃 Rice
🎃 Candy corn
🎃 Confetti paper
🎃 Mini erasers
🎃 Metal bucket
🎃 Orange plastic tote
🎃 Table cloth for the floor

When he starts to put the items in his mouth, I block his hand and show him how to put them in the little tin bucket instead; Block and Redirect!

And the table cloth was a game changer! So fun! Just look at that smile 😊

Fav product shout out to 🥳🥳

We received a new Snake Climber a little while back and have been playing with it everyday since we put it together!

Currently a Kickstarter campaign that you can pre-order and I highly recommend!

You can change the position of the ladder rungs into virtually anything 🤪

Definitely a supervision required kind of toy, especially as your kiddos are learning to climb and maneuver around their environment!

It’s been so fun watching Tripp’s self-esteem increase as well as all of the other OT-type skills we practice, like postural control, grip strength and motor motor planning! 💪🏼

We’re going to make some super sweet obstacle courses with this treasure over the next few years!

There’s a few days left to pre-order, I’ll put a link in my bio so y’all can check them out!

has a ton of other high quality products you’ll love as well!

Great customer service and company doing things right 🤩

Milestones + OT Mom Brain

Spilling my thoughts on this topic because it’s been awhile since I’ve shared about milestones and a message I got from a fellow OT mama really got me thinking.

I feel like I stressed out about milestones when he was younger- from torticollis to tethered oral tissues to the janky crawl he had, it wasn’t the ideal path of development.

I struggled to turn off my OT brain- asking myself ‘why’ all the time.

He’s always been on the slower side of gross motor milestones which is totally fine! We had to work really hard to practice each skill. Just took me awhile to realize this.

When it came to walking, it was the milestone worried about least because crawling has so many benefits I was fine with him crawling for so long. He still hasn’t mastered it, but he’s finally interested!

What did I learn through this first year being a first time mom and pediatric occupational therapy assistant?

🤍It’s okay to feel worried about your babe hitting milestones.
🤍 It’s okay to help babe reach their milestones and use therapy tricks with them.
🤍 It’s not okay to worry about milestones so much that you miss out on the joys of raising your babe.
🤍 It’s not okay to compare babes and their milestones.
🤍 Every baby is on their own unique developmental trajectory.

So after all of these thoughts if you’re still with me- can you relate?? Either as a mom? A therapist? Or both?? ⤵️

In my stories I talked about how I plan on meeting my sensory needs after a long day of computer work…

So I figured there were other adults out there who are curious about their own sensory needs too!

Swipe to see some of my favorite sensory based activities for adults to complete on a daily basis to help stay regulated during and after a long day!
