If you get migraines, you probably already know what a fluorescent-lit room or a bright screen can do to an already bad day.

Last week, the FDA authorized Avulux lenses to reduce light sensitivity in people with episodic migraine. It's the first lens of its kind to earn that designation, and we've carried it since we opened. Avulux filters two narrow bands of light and lets the rest through, so things aren't too dark indoors. We can make them in your prescription or without any power.

If you've had an eye exam within the past year, we can use your existing prescription. If it's been longer than a year, call us to schedule so we can get you updated!

"But I can see fine."

We hear it constantly, and we get it. If the world looks clear, why sit through an exam?

Here's the part most people don't know: the eye conditions we worry about most are the ones that don't announce themselves. Glaucoma quietly takes peripheral vision years before you'd notice. Diabetes shows up in the retina before it shows up anywhere else. Macular degeneration starts small and central.

By the time vision changes enough for you to feel it, damage has often already happened.

A vision screening at school or the DMV checks one thing: whether you can read a chart across the room. A comprehensive exam looks at the health of the eye itself. Those are very different questions.

Seeing 20/20 is good news. It just isn't the whole picture.
