Magnificent Buildings: Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral of Our Lady of Paris simply known as Notre-Dame is a French gothic church on an island in the river Seine in Paris, France. A fire in 2019 caused extensive damage and it was closed for repairs, when I visited on a cold January afternoon, in 2023. Since then, work completed and it reopened in December 2024.
The outside perimeter was closed off and covered with info graphic wrapped around exposing the process of reconstruction, the past and future. Instead of just a ‘rude’ and mute blockage, I liked the idea as the images and texts conveyed all the info for questions and concerns someone like me a tourist, as well as a resident might have.
After seeing the Disney movie ‘ Hunchback of Notre Dame’ a zillion times with my kids, I could visualize the missing parts. Hoping someday, to return to Paris and view the restored exterior and interiors.
Tourist tip: I had stayed in Sorbonne area during this college trip and it was a great location to explore on foot Sorbonne, 6th Arrondissement, Louvre, 4th Arrondissement, Notre Dame and back to hotel.

Magnificent Buildings: this is the Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família or simply Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Spain. Construction which began in 1882, is still going on for this Gothic, Art Nouveau and Modernista style building, a creation of the incredible Antoni Gaudi. Construction is expected to complete in 2034.
I had seen images of this building through out my life and to actually see it, be inside it, and even tour the top was an incredible experience indeed. My imagination was captured by the contrast of the rough, stark exterior with the dream-like, colorful and vast interior. The afternoon sunlight, streaming thru the stain glass windows lit up the space in rainbow hues, mesmerizing me. My block print saree was stylish and comfortable for a day around Barcelona in a double decker tourist bus on a cool spring day.
Tourist tip: Had booked tickets online in advance, for the church and access to the top, specifically for afternoon to have the sunlight at an angle.

Magnificent buildings: this is the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady Assumption and Saint Paul also known as São Paulo cathedral, in São Paulo, Brazil. Although the building in general is Neo-Gothic, the dome is inspired by the Renaissance dome of the Cathedral of Florence. And took 4 decades to be finally completed. It is considered to be the 4th largest neo gothic cathedral in the world.
It was about noon on a warm spring day when I reached this church, while exploring the city in my Brand .2074 ‘s Brown cotton jumpsuit and the cool interiors of the church, were very welcoming. Got some respite from the sun as well as rest to tired legs while taking in the beautiful facades of tall stained glass windows, framed by tall arches and mosaic art works, especially of Mother Mary.
Tourist tip: the plaza outside is crowded and has a notorious reputation, as per locals and all tourist guides. I was on alert, but did not experience anything bad. In fact, loved exploring Sao Paulo and found everyone there to be very helpful and kind.

Her long daily commute to work is about to start & she goes thru her checklist.✅Hair done:a bun with a black plastic round clip with long teeth. ✅Saree for work, draped with practiced ease and no pins. ✅loose change taken from box of coins saved in almirah for bus tickets✅Steel almirah locked ✅Almirah lock rechecked by pulling down the handle. Satisfied, she tucks the bunch of keys at her waist, with the hook on the key ring. And starts walking to the bus stop. The keys remain secure, thru her commute of crowded public buses, and thru her day as a chemistry professor teaching classes and labs. Once home, those keys are kept safe under the mattress.
My Aai’s keelicha guchha, chaabi ka challa, keys and the key holder, were part of her signature look, for as long as I can remember. Being the youngest, when she gave those keys to me, to open her almirah, a thrill of responsibility and being grown up had spread thru me🥰. I was reminded of all this today, when I came across post on . Many women in India have challa, a small waist jewelry piece, which is decorated beautifully and usually has small ghungroos on them. My Aai reserved another waist jewelry for special occasions and it was the Mekhala, a bigger, longer piece made with dainty chains and had a hook at each end, to secure at waist.
Is there a connection to be explored? Would .india and be able to shed some light?

Do rukhi: saree with two right sides. This is a handloom banarasi silk saree with a design called bulbul chasma.
An AI summit usually has attendees in western business wear, that too usually in synthetics. I chose this handloom saree to celebrate me and my heritage: a global Indian. This event was special as my team members were participating in contest for AI solution for agriculture. Hence chose this special Saree. Paired with a crop tee for a biz wear look.
The other look is from my nephew’s wedding reception, from few months ago. The theme was Bohemian and it was a fun night with singing by the groom’s parents,& cousin, dance by the young couple and bride and her sister & of course some speeches. Had paired this look with a sleeveless black blouse with metal and pearl lace in back, can be paired with many sarees in my closet.
