1978 NBC Saturday Night at the Movies: KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park

In 1978, KISS was the hottest band in the land, and NBC brought them to television in this wild made-for-TV musical fantasy produced by Hanna-Barbera.

KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park had everything a 70s kid could want: KISS, superheroes, an evil inventor, an amusement park and plenty of over-the-top camp!

The movie was filmed mostly at Magic Mountain in California and included a full KISS concert for thousands of fans. It was inspired in part by the Marvel KISS comic book, which portrayed the band as superheroes.

Originally airing October 28, 1978, the movie has gone from being panned by critics to becoming a beloved cult classic.

And watching it today is a little bittersweet. It captures KISS with the original lineup, including Ace Frehley, who has passed away. Seeing the four of them together in their prime makes this time capsule of KISS history even more special.

The entire movie can be found on YouTube, but here is the NBC bumper that introduced the special.

MTV's Halloween Horror Show with Elvira and Alice Cooper

Back in 1986, Elvira and Alice Cooper teamed up to celebrate Halloween on MTV!

The show was written by George McGrath, who also worked on Pee-wee's Playhouse, Big Top Pee-wee and The Tracey Ullman Show.

Elvira hosted with skits and music videos before the show turned into a full Alice Cooper concert from Detroit.

The timing was perfect for Alice, who had just released his album Constrictor that September, which included the theme song from one of the Friday the 13th movies.

The entire show can be found on YouTube and other streaming services, but for now, here's just one of the commercials.

Witch's Night Out 1978

One of those classic Halloween specials that takes you right back to childhood!

Witch's Night Out premiered on NBC on October 27, 1978, featuring Gilda Radner as the witch, along with the voices of Catherine O'Hara and Fiona Reid.

The story follows two kids who are disappointed that nobody is scared of their Halloween costumes. They summon a witch, who turns them into a werewolf and ghost, while their babysitter becomes Frankenstein's monster. The fun really begins when they head to the witch's Halloween party!

Produced in Toronto, the special was animated entirely on cels and even featured its own disco song, "Witch Magic." It later became a yearly Halloween favorite on Fox and the Disney Channel.

Below is the special's intro. Enjoy and Be A Kid Again....

NFL Topps Football Heritage and MLB 1992 Wax Box Scores

We made a pit stop at our favorite sports card store this week and picked up a few things to open!

We absolutely love vintage Topps wax boxes, so we were pretty excited to score this 1992 Topps Baseball box at a great price. We are planning a rip with a few of our friends around Thanksgiving, so unfortunately these will have to wait. Now we just have to fight off the urge to open them all before then! This box could have a Jeter, Chipper Jones, Manny Ramirez and Jim Thome rookie cards so it will be fun.

We also decided to try out the new NFL Topps Football Heritage box, and these cards are beautiful. Topps brought back the look and feel of the classic 1976 Topps Football design, pairing one of the hobby's most iconic designs with the biggest stars and rookies of today's game.

There is even a pretty cool Walter Payton chase featuring rare Cut Signatures, along with a redemption for a PSA 10 copy of his rookie card.

A little vintage wax, a little new football, and a whole lot of temptation sitting on the shelf!

What cards have you opened lately? What hits have you found, tell us below and Be A Kid Again....

Vintage MEGO and Star Wars Auction Win!

Today we received a small but mighty auction score from another online marketplace.

We don't know why, but we are continually drawn to vintage MEGO action figures. It seems like almost every auction we have hit this year has had at least one affordable lot of MEGO figures with some slight issues that we can easily fix.

Case in point, the Spider-Man's leg just needed a new pin and he was ready for action and will be heading to our next toy show. Superman, however, was too far gone. His suit was dry rotted, and his legs had some serious 70's engineering going on with tape and popsicle sticks being used for support. So, we parted out what was left and added the usable pieces to our parts bin so another Superman can live when we need to do a repair.

The other score is a very rare Star Wars Darth Maul saber. We still need to carefully clean the auction sticker off the window of the box, but overall, the box is in fair shape. This one might actually stay in our PC since Darth Maul is one of our favorite characters from the series and it has some KayBee stickers on it.

Did you own any of these figures as a kid? Do you still own them today?
