A project so close to our hearts!
🌳 The Fernwood Tree of Belonging 🌳

Over the summer of 2026, something beautiful took root at Fernwood Elementary. Our team of 45 youth and adult artists came together and poured over 120 hours of creativity, patience, and paint into a mural that now lives at the heart of the school.

Rendered in the centuries-old Indian folk tradition of Madhubani art, the mural weaves together heritage and belonging, a tree whose branches carry the students’ names in their native languages, whose leaves symbolize community, whose birds carry big dreams, and whose roots remind us that we can only soar when we’re grounded in our values.

This mural was conceptualized, designed, and composed in consultation with Fernwood Principal Cassie Morton thus making sure that it reflects the school’s core values and ethos.

A very special thank you to Shachi Sinha, Fernwood’s teacher for bringing in this opportunity, Vidhya Durai (Project Lead), Deepthi Sunder Rajan (Project Coordinator), and (Lead Artist) for guiding this project from vision to wall.

And to every artist whose hands brought this tree to life… thank you for your creativity, your patience, and your heart:

Aaria Mittal, Abhay Bodapati, Adithi Siva, Amrutha Arvind, Andrew Yandl, Anugraha Ganesh, Arianna Sinha, Dhanya Haritham, Dhiya Sankar, Dhruvika Gogoi, Guhan Thiagarajan, Isha Parekh, Krithi Siva, Meera Sankar, Myra Sharma, Nikita Thakalath, Pehal Thacker, Prayan Mittal, Rasika Ganesh, Reyansh Aggarwal, Ritisha Saraogi, Riyanshi Saraogi, Ruchika Saraogi, Saisha Jain, Sanika Kabbur, Sanket Mittal, Shilpa Sherigar, Shriya Shaji, Sivathmika Suresh, Sneha Sankar, and Sowmya Subramanian.

A heartfelt shout-out to Nithya Ramadas for beautifully capturing the magic of installation success party - thank you for freezing this moment in time for all of us to cherish.

More than paint on a wall, this mural is a promise: that at Fernwood, every culture is celebrated, every learner is held with care, and every dream is given room to take flight. 💛

Ganesh Chaturthi Special!

Since we’re still vibing in the spirit of Ganesh Chaturthi, here are some lovely artworks by our little artists, along with a few fun Ganesha stories for a quick 2-minute storytime with the kids or a nostalgic recap of those "bachpan ke kissay"!

The best souvenirs aren’t bought…
they’re made together.

This summer, at our Northshore Senior Center event, families came together, painting, laughing, sharing stories, and adding their own little touches to a simple photo frame.

And then came the instant pics!
A click, a smile, a little moment frozen in time, and suddenly, those painted frames became more than art. They became memories of a day spent creating together.

The transformation of a blank frame into a memory worth keeping was the magic of art, and the magic of bringing generations together.

Because when we create together, we don’t just make art…
we make memories that last.

A New Chapter of Service! ❤️

I am deeply honored to share that Governor Bob Ferguson has appointed me as a Washington State Arts Commissioner (ArtsWA ) for the 2026–2029 term.

From creating art in my studio to now having the opportunity to contribute to conversations about the arts and access across Washington State - this feels both humbling and incredibly exciting.

Sometimes, life has a beautiful way of adding a completely unexpected line to your résumé! 😊

Honored. Humbled. And very ready to serve. ❤️

Chai, conversations, and connections = an afternoon well spent.

It was a joy to spend the day at Roundglass India Center Seattle University, where founder held a fascinating fireside chat with Amb. Namgya C. Khampa, Deputy Chief of Mission. Between the insightful discussions on India and the diaspora (over, of course, the chai and samosas) one could feel the spirit of home in the room!

What made the afternoon super special was when my painting was presented to the Ambassador during the event.

A heartfelt thank you to , , , and for curating such a wonderful gathering rooted in community and togetherness!
