Do you know what makes me smile (and just a little sad)? Every time I take a day off—thank you, Gretchen, for holding down the fort!—I miss seeing all the wonderful things our vendors bring in.

Keith added a gorgeous door sign and a beautiful cutting board, and Nikki brought in several new treasures. Two of my favorites are her charming basket of smalls and the vintage medicine cabinet.

Celebrating international joke day with a nice upper Midwest joke…

Ole and Lena were ice fishing. Ole chopped one hole after another but never caught a fish. A voice boomed from above: “THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THAT ICE.” Ole looked around and drilled another hole. Again the voice: “THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THAT ICE.” Ole nervously asked, “Lord, is that You?” The voice replied, “No. This is the manager of the skating arena.” 😄🎣

I have been working on some signs to hang in Scandia throughout the year. They are generally holiday and season related, but I’ve done some for North Dakota’s birthday and such. I’m working on a set that will match my decor. This one is a top favorite.

You’ve probably realized by now that I am a bit history obsessed. Even though I’m not from Bottineau County, I live here and enjoy learning about its history and people. This sign celebrates the main heritages of Bottineau County. I don’t share much heritage with you all - 4% Irish is it - I’m just too much of a stubborn, independent Scot 😁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿.

Sales pitch? Our vendors have things that celebrate your history and heritage - stop in and find that special piece! Or you can talk about your family history. I’d love that too.

One of my favorite things about owning Scandia Market is getting to research the treasures that come through our doors. Some belong to me, and some belong to our vendors, but every now and then I come across an item with a story that’s just too interesting not to dive into.

I’ll admit…sometimes I get a little obsessive. 😄 This vintage mink coat was one of those items! I had so much fun learning about its history and the craftsmanship behind it. It’s amazing how much a single piece can tell us about the past.

Now that I’ve finished my research, I’ve put together a little write-up to go along with the coat so its next owner can enjoy its story as much as I did.

And yes—the coat is officially available for sale!
