The heart of this retreat is timelessness.

A three-day letterpress printing experience at Black Cat with the uber-talented Allison Bozeman celebrating the simple pleasure of ink on paper, thoughtful words on the page, and the small handcrafted rituals that keep us connected.

We’ll play with patterns, letters and colors on multiple presses; share outstanding farm-to-table meals; and be in the company of beautiful creative people. In a world that feels increasingly digital, we’ll be reminded of all that our hands are capable of, and there is no replacement for the human spirit.

It feels so good to have finally finished this punch needle rug. Can you believe it Rose Pearlman? I love how it imperfectly came together, especially the varied color border.

With great excitement, we’re announcing our second spring Black Cat Makerie retreat : Farm to Home Appalachian Broom Making with Cynthia Main sunhouse craft

April 9 - 11, 2027

The heart of this retreat is slowing down long enough to make something useful with your own hands while connecting to the traditions, materials, and land that make tools for the home truly special.
Join Kentucky based broom maker Cynthia Main, owner of Sunhouse Craft, and author of A Handmade Broom, for a three-day immersion into the tradition of Appalachian broom making.

Beginning with a full sized Appalachian sweep, and covering the traditional Appalachian hand broom shapes, students will leave with a strong foundation in the craft, and an excellent set of brooms for the home.

Come for thoughtful instruction, practice in traditional craft, and a chance to connect to the land and each other through craft, farm-to-table meals, and the very special setting of Black Cat.

We can’t wait to share this treasured time together.

For makers of all kinds, we invite you to join us for a creative and heart-opening retreat next spring.

Registration is open for Tiny Tea Stories with Ruby Silvious Ruby Silvious at Black Cat ~ April 2-4, 2027.

The heart of this retreat is reimagining limits ~ turning remnants of daily ritual into canvases for innovation and self-discovery. Together, we’ll turn tea cups into playful studies; transform our beloved shirts and sweaters into whimsical ‘tea shirt’ concertina books; and create tea bag art adorned from wooden spools. We’ll carry home a collection of unique tea bag paintings, and a renewed sense of calm, curiosity, and a mind full of possibilities found in everyday objects.

We’ll share abundant farm-to-table meals; cozy up in a historic boutique barn; and bask in the breathtaking setting of Black Cat Farm. We’ll play, find a slower place, and build a beautiful community rooted in creative nourishment.
