The uniform shop was just another small business under the umbrella of the BALCO Management corporate structure put in place by the Liudahl family of Williston, North Dakota. Williston lies in an oil rich basin near the Montana border and the U.S. / Canada border. Marti Liudahl took the reigns of BALCO UNIFORM in 1995 and the complacent company began to really take shape. It outgrew five different
locations and now finds itself in 4-Corners area of Bozeman, MT. Marti founded a customer base in North Dakota and Montana that is still very loyal to this day. She had a way with people and they still ask about her and life in retirement. Marti’s son Jake and his wife Shawna brought their family back to Williston, ND to break into the family business in 2002. In 2004, the company was sold to Shawna and Jake and it still retains “woman-owned” certification. Future
Looking towards the future of BALCO is exciting. The staff has been working diligently to launch us into the next level of doing business. For 18 years we did marketing from a grass roots position. Now we are able to steer our customers towards our website to buy on-line. Doing business in the 21st century is fast paced and we are enjoying every minute of it. Our portfolio has expanded and we now carry uniforms for the following industries: Law Enforcement, Medical, FR, Fire Protection, Industrial Shop, Security, and EMS. Our Western Spirit
The historian Frederick Jackson Turner said of the American Frontier that it was a place that fostered equality, democracy, and optimism, as well as individualism, self-reliance, and even violence. These qualities are the foundation upon which the “Wild West” was built. This is a place where individuals are judged on their actions and treatment of their fellow man. A place where the individual spirit and a person’s drive to succeed is a powerful thing, and a place where, on occasion, the title “Wild West” was earned by violence. But from the settlement of Virginia City, Montana in 1863 to modern Williston, North Dakota, law and order has always prevailed. This is the spirit of the Western American. The traditions of this part of our country are proud and deep-seated in our heritage. BALCO Uniform is no different. We still carry the values of the West in the way we do business. Here at BALCO Uniform we believe that an honest, God-fearing man’s word is his bond. As such, giving our customers a square deal is the cornerstone of our business. We will strive to provide the highest quality service possible to our clients, because we know that the people we serve are the legacy of justice and public service that has shaped the West. A special thanks to all those customers who continue to keep their business local and support small business and the working middle-class. Together, we are keeping America strong!
