The city of Lafayette LA is burying a 50-year and a 100-year time capsule on December 28, 2023. We were asked to contribute some of our Acadian Brown Cotton for this event. We're including some small heritage pattern textiles, a few brown cotton bolls, history of Acadian Brown Cotton and a photo of Mary Alice and I. We are so excited to have been invited to participate in what will become Lafayette history one day!

Acadian Brown Cotton textiles made from Louisiana grown Acadian Brown Cotton. Patterns are preserved from existing heritage patterns of hand spun and woven Acadian textiles in collections dating from the 1800's to early 1900's.

December 9th and brown cotton is still blooming and bolls are opening every day. Cotton is 5'-7' tall this year even with the lack of water.

The stages of cotton start with a white bloom which is pollinated. After pollination the flower leaf starts to turn pink and closes. The flower will turn a dark pink almost purple. When the flower falls of the boll will start developing. After total development the boll will open and the fiber will be exposed for picking.
