Ear molding involves using a small splint and tapes to help correct the shape before the baby's cartilage hardens. It is completely painless. Most infants sleep or feed through the whole process.

Have you been told that your child's ear shape will "correct over time"? If their ear has not changed in one to two weeks after birth, chances are that the ear shape you see will be permanent. That is, unless you decide to pursue ear molding.

Because ear shape does not generally have a "functional" impact, does not mean that the social or psychological impact of having ear shape differences is unimportant. We are our own worst critics, and children can be brutally honest with one another.

Why not take that issue off of your child's plate in advance? If their ear has not corrected itself at 2 weeks of life, it will become the permanent shape when the cartilage hardens. After that, the only way to fix these issues is surgery.
