👁️ Do I have to be dilated at this appointment?

Annual dilation is recommended to help ensure the back of your eyes is healthy. However, our doctors prefer using Optos® retinal imaging as the primary way to examine the back of your eyes. This advanced technology captures a detailed image of your retina without the need for dilation in most cases.

✅ Comfortable and convenient
✅ No blurry vision—dilation typically takes 4–6 hours to wear off
✅ Digital images help monitor changes in your eye health over time

The Optos retinal image is available for a $49 copay, and some insurance plans have started covering retinal imaging. If your doctor determines that dilation is still necessary based on your eye health or exam findings, they will discuss it with you during your visit.
