Aloha! 🤙🏼

We’re somewhere between a long run, a pickup game, a bbq and a day by the water soaking up the last few weeks of summer.

The Pain Toolkit Workshop
Saturday, August 29 | 10:30 AM

Have you been logging a lot of solo runs this summer and are looking to share miles with new friends? Or are you in a route-planning rut and want to just show up and run? Maybe you’re tired of carrying a bottle to stay hydrated in the heat?

Join us for our Supported Long Run. We’ll be visiting some of Brooklyn’s best parks on our ~13 mile route, with a stop halfway for hydration and gels at Bakline’s HQ. This run will be paced at 9:30 min/mile, but you’re welcome to download the map and run at your own pace, too!

After the run, we’ll host a workshop that covers tips to quiet down aches & pains so you can keep training towards your goals. Hosted by Jay Kwon of Resilient Strides, we’ll share techniques from taping to footwear to form in this interactive session.

Last Saturday Long Run | Saturday, August 29 | 8 AM - 10 AM

Join us for a supported long run this Saturday, August 29! We’ll head out from our Gowanus HQ at 8am. Our routes will range from 10-15 miles, and we will provide at least one aid station along the route with water, gels, and electrolytes. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to shop our new From The Ground Up Collection. We hope to see you there!

Today is our third time having Nicci from ELEVATE Performance Services in the shop to help us better understand how salty we are when we sweat. Here’s Matt, realizing he probably has been under his electrolyte needs. If you’re feeling this heat, sensing that you’re not operating optimally, your hydration strategy may be one area to improve this summer.

We also have a Legwork podcast episode 4 on heat training, and episode 7 on nutrition and hydration strategies “Fuel Smarter.”

Still thinking about Tuesday night.

60 people racing through Gowanus with covered watches, phones away, and nothing but their own sense of pace to get them as close as possible to their predicted time.

Then beers at Other Half.

What a night. Canal Classic, you were fun.

Racing should be about more than raw speed.

On Tuesday night, 60 runners covered their watches, bagged their phones, and stood outside Bakline HQ with a different kind of race goal: predict exactly how long it would take them to run a 5K.

There was no prescribed pace. No advantage to being the fastest person there. You picked the effort, told us when you thought you’d finish, and then had to trust yourself. That’s the idea behind the Canal Classic and our Hop to Hops series.

We love racing. We love chasing PRs and seeing what happens when months of work come together on one day. But there are so many other things that make someone a good runner that a finish time doesn’t capture. Knowing yourself. Understanding your effort. Executing your plan. And, sometimes, just being able to run hard without checking your wrist every thirty seconds. This race is built around valuing those qualities in an athlete.

The Canal Classic edition took us along the Gowanus Canal, finishing with a beer and, hopefully, a slightly different idea of what it means to compete.

Thank you to the 60 people who trusted us enough to put away their phones, cover their watches, make a prediction, and run with us.

And yes, for those who missed out, we’ll be doing this again. Stay tuned for details in the coming months about a November race.

At times, it can feel like you’re barely moving from where you started. But every adjustment still moves you forward, at warp speed, toward the kind of athlete you want to be.
