The Vallentine Project

The Vallentine Project The Vallentine Project creates individual handmade homewares products and installation pieces. Bianca Vallentine finds inspiration in the individual.

In community. In the number of slow, considered threads it takes to form a pattern. She creates products that make life more cosy, experiences more colourful – and her practice a hard one to define. After studying Fashion and Textile Design at Curtin University in WA, she now creates soft, beautiful things that include clothing, cushions, bed linen and home wares; she’s also explored film; curated

events; crafted vibrant installations and adorned walls and windows with sprawling, delicately cut swathes of streamers – all unique, one-of-a-kind and handmade in her leafy studio at Northcote’s Pop & Scott workshop [www.popandscott.com]. The Vallentine Project is the umbrella under which this creative collage comes together. Here, Bianca’s own work sits alongside regular collaborations with others such as illustrator Andy Murphy; photographer Penny Lane; industrial creatives Moth Design and landscape designer Phillip Withers amongst others. The Vallentine Project is committed to a constant, playful evolution, however the ideas that anchor it remain the same: to create beauty in the every day; value in the unique and to produce pieces and experiences that are as special as they are functional. It’s also about not letting dust gather on the things that bring us the most joy – usability, wearability and the history of the hand made naturally imbue themselves in everything Bianca does.

Nearly 2 years ago I flew to WA for a full immersion into the future visions of (which are brilliant by the way). A bunch of ideas flowed from that trip but one that I’ve been brewing ever since has been that of a hand painted landscape in the form of a shower curtain. And now, here it is!

Through abstract painting I am interested in capturing and interpreting places of environmental significance. I have been, for a while, translating them onto large pieces of linen which have taken the form of bedding and hanging pieces, but this kind of product is a first.

Through a lot of research I have successfully waterproofed the fabric. This commission will now live in the newly refurbished Stellar Violets cottage which will be opening up for guest visits very soon.

I feel a real sense of privilege and honour to be included in this space that has been the dreamt up and is finally being realised. And I can’t wait to visit!

This time last week I was just arriving home from an epic week of Producing for doco film maker on her new film

The doco looks at how AI can support climate activists. The first part of the film follows as he puts hydrophones on the sea bed to listen to the migration of whales and the kinds of things that are changing their migration patterns (noise pollution, sea temperatures, lack of fish).

The second part of the doco is still to come.
Huge thanks to and for recognising the importance of projects like these and making them happen!

RIP may your next journey be filled with even more magic ✨

You were such a generous mentor, patient, kind and such a gentle soul in an industry that had more than few sharp edges. Thank you for taking me under your wing and showing me how to make things even better through your creativity, skill and practice.

You always supported me (and so many others I can’t even count) throughout my career- always offering encouragement and positivity, and above all friendship.

We will all mourn you. But there are so many of us that can because you broke down barriers to mentor and support so many. So whilst you may be physically gone, you’ll never leave us. 🧡

My heart goes to my fellow fashion pack, especially you who is the other half of this story of love and kindness 🧡🧡🧡

Jumping off the deep end into 2025. More of all the good things especially people, art and laughter 😂 📷

One very special New Year I found myself in a vineyard with friends who taught me about the '12 grapes of luck', where you eat a grape to represent the good fortune of each month of the coming new year. We adapted the tradition to twelve wishes- one wish per grape and so on. This year I'm going to set the occasion with one of my hand embroidered black linen table cloths to truly represent connection, luck and good fortune.

Restocking for Christmas!

I’ve finally added our eye masks onto the website so you can get your orders in for Christmas. These baby’s are hand painted and probably the most comfortable due to their covered elastic back strap. They’ve been a bit of a secret for awhile…

We hand paint all of our work in our Rye studio and sew our collections in Warragul. We massively believe in producing locally to keep industries and skills alive, so everything you buy supports that ambition- thank you 🧡
