A little back story on how Elvie & Dorthy B's Book Boutique came to be.
Since we opened in our hometown of Spruce Pine, we have relocated to Burnsville due to the storm.
Our book shop has grown and our love for this little spot has become so very special to us❤️❤️

My brother and I were chatting one day about our family, our parents and our grandparents. It dawned on me that he and I were the only two that shared the exact bloodline from both Elvie and Dorthy B.
Elvie was our Mama's Mama. Dorthy B was our Dad's Mama. They were the most remarkable grandmothers any two kids could have ever shared. Andy and I were particularly close to both of them, as our parents very much valued their roles in our lives and knew we had much to learn from them.
They both loved Jesus and lived to share HIM with their families and their community. Elvie had 11 children and Dorthy B had 5. They loved to be grandmothers and they were the best at it. I think between them, there are now well over a hundred grandchildren and great grandchildren. ❤️
They loved their churches, and served them well. Elvie attended the little white church in North Cove, and Dorthy B attended Grassy Creek, the brick church on the hillside. We grew up going to church with both of them. Not just on Sundays, but seems like most days during the week we were doing something related to taking care of folks in the community. We remember delivering alot of meals, and riding along with Dorthy B as she picked up and dropped off or helping Elvie in the kitchen as she cooked for the neighbors. Elvie was a gardener and we spent lots of time picking beans and shucking corn with her. We had no clue how much she was teaching us that didn't relate at all to beans or corn or potatoes.
We were taught the love of family. None of us were ever perfect, but all our Bailey and Andrews cousins grew up knowing we were perfectly loved.
They also both loved to read. I have many of Grandma Dorthy's books, and much of Mamaw Andy's (that's what we called her) music. She loved to sing, and loved to write her own songs. My Aunt just gave me a notebook full of her music, written by her. I've spent more time reading that music and turning those papers over and over than I have doing my work lately. I have precious gold in my hands as far as I'm concerned. I'd attribute my love for music directly to Elvie, and my love for reading to Dorthy B.
I could write novels about both of them. One day, I will. They were incredibly different, yet incredibly the same.
They were ladies of class and grace. Wisdom and understanding. They survived wars. They survived great love and great loss.
They were the best of friends with one another. They loved, and they loved well. Their presence is to this day PRESENT in our lives.
To my brother and me, two of the greatest women of faith we've ever known were simply Mamaw and Grandma. They belonged to us, and we belonged to them.
I thought it would be a sweet gesture and a great honor for us to name our newest endeavor after the two of them.
Our little boutique bookshop is located in our hometown of Spruce Pine. It's tiny, but packed with love.
208 Oak Ave ( in the former Savings and Loan Building on Upper St.) Neighbors with The Tropical Grill.
It's called Elvie and Dorthy B's.
You'll find a touch of the both of them there. It's very personal to us, and hopefully will be a good resource for our community.
We open today, at 10am. Stop by and say "Hi" if you're in town.
A great selection of Bibles, inspirational gifts and books from your favorite authors. There's a wonderful "gently loved" selection that also accepts book swaps and donations for others to share.
We hope to see you!
