100% rabbit or hare fur felt hats are often labeled as “Fur Felt” on mass produced store bought hats. Some manufacturers may label their hats as “?X fur,” which could mean that it’s wool with some rabbit fur thrown in. Ask the store’s hat department for a breakdown of the materials in the hat or look it up. My custom hats are either 100% Beaver, 100% Nutria, 50/50 beaver/rabbit blend, or 100% rabbit. Full transparency should be transparent. 🤠

Coypu, aka Nutria, is a cousin to the beaver. It is as water resistant as it is gorgeous! Coypu were imported to the U.S. from South America and are now invasive to many of our coastal waterways. These states have eradication programs to keep the population down and our coastal waterways thriving. s

My customer asked me to make a 100% beaver fur felt hat that looks like smoke. So, TA-DAH!! He really loved it and gave me a big hug! (Seeing all the smiles is my favorite part about hat making. 🤠 My dear friend and mentor, Tom Hirt, and I are filming his stories from his days as a Hollywood hat maker for his YouTube channel.
